But that could change, obviously.
Maybe - and if it did change, I am sure Levy would prefer to deal out of the league.

But, it seems we are bargaining with one team right now, and hoping PSG sells Neymar to RM - which frees up money from PSG - but then, not so coincidentally, probably frees up Bale...

Otherwise - can't see any other team with the resources or needs to sign Toby for the money we want.

Martial would be our statement signing. And expensive one. That is ‘If!?’ We can pull it off

Tonights developments can't have harmed our chances, but like you said there's a lot of politics at Megacorporation Utd...

Thanks for the info but I think quite a few of us will be a bit disappointed that Martial is our statement signing. Not so much that he isn't a decent player but in that with Son available it doesn't seem that much of an upgrade (if at all) and is in an area we don't necessarily need to strengthen.

I suppose he could also cover for Harry upfront. Nonetheless I personally would rather have seen our statement signing being in CM.

I’d be fucking buzzing.

Some people are forgetting that, just two years ago, martial was named the best young player ON THE PLANET, Even over certain names currently in our XI. He hasn't had the best times under Mourinho, but neither did Salah Lukaku(previous time at Chelsea) and De Bruyne. Martial has the talent to be a success at any club in the world. He'd be a MASSIVE statement of intent for us.

Son is amazing on his day however when he is off form or squanders his chances, we only have Lamela to bring on. We are still unknown over what impact Lucas can have in big games so I'd happily let Lamela go and bring Martial in.

I do understand Martial is quality, but he also squanders a lot of chances too, and once he misses one he will try and try again, a bit like Kane and Son, even when a simple pass would be better.

Ok. You're obviously a big fan of Martial but why do you think this is the best use of our transfer funds? I'm open to changing my mind but at this juncture I just can't see it.
I think its going to take people a while to adjust to our MF next season. Almost everything points to us moving from a CM pairing to a CM trio.

I am expecting Eriksen and another CM to play in front of Dier (or Wanyama). It could be Grealish or Dele or Winks - but I don't think we will be spending big on a CM this summer - even though Dembele will be moving on. We will not be replacing like-for-like.

The thing I like about him is when he having a bad game he knows he still a threat and keeps going. But on form he is brilliant

Bale aside which is a massive long shot, what other statements are even out there in our ballpark?

Take CM for example:-

Thiago is seemingly on the market but seems Barca are going balls deep there, can't compete with that. Milinkovic-Savic seems too pricey even for the elite. Maybe Kovacic (or even Modric) could become available under Lopetegui at Madrid but there'd probably be a big queue there too, and Kovacic might not even command a £50m+ fee. How much would Rabiot command? Maybe we have no CM targets for the 'statement' money, unless we overpay.

Plus there's the possibility we may well switch to a 3 man midfield in which case Dele and Eriksen are already top class.

Not that I'm trying to speak for other people, but in my opinion, martial is a 'bums off seat' kind of player. Brings the sort of excitement fans love to see.

Other than son, and possibly Lucas, how many others do we have like that? I want to be entertained at the new stadium.

That's interesting and I see that Herc agrees. Martial would definitely make more sense in that set up.

As Herc has confirmed the formation switch you suggest (and though of course i'd prefer Bale) I can see why we might be going all out for Martial. I'd wet myself if we signed M-S or Ratboy but as you say that may be unachievable.

I like this idea really much.Alli and eriksen were absolute outstanding in that match and having winks/Dier as back ups doesn't make us look that weak at all.
