Massive game for England tonight. My prediction is that England will face Belgium for the WC Final

Dead rubber, and will be played out as such imo.
Yeap, will be very similar to France v Denmark and I doubt we'll see Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen or Toby on the pitch at all, even though papers reporting Kane will start.

On the best route to the final debate a lot will depend on the 3pm games but if Japan win their group then you'd have to be pretty stupid not to recognise that finishing 2nd gives the team a far better chance of reaching the final, and could you imagine what a final of England v Brazil would be like.

Don't think it's in England's mentality to play to lose though while Martinez has already basically said he wants to finish 2nd with the number of changes he is making, he sees the bigger picture.

I've just seen that Martinez is going to rest Super Jan as he is on a yellow card and doesn't want to risk him being suspended further down the line.

You think we'll see a similar display as the Denmark-France game? Knowing Kane, he'll have none of it :D

Very much agree with this. Also if you are giving squad players the chance to play surely they will want to try and win a starting place in the team so would go all out for this game. Any other mentality makes little sense to me

If Jan's out, and Kompany's still out, it's Kane vs. Toby, Dedryk Boyata and who, Vermaelen?

Good luck Toby. He won't get much help!

If you're a 'big' team and you actively try not to win in order to go into the so called easier side of the draw. I hope you fail miserably, it's the World Cup FFS.

I think Vermaelen came in to the competition injured too, so he would be targeted.

I don't think Belgium have the personnel to switch to a back-4 either.

The winner of this is practically the loser so this should be a nice, fun dull game where no one tries to win. We’ll probably see a fair amount of yellows though.

It wont be. both teams will want to win. And if Belgium don't want to win, I hope we put 6 or 7 past them.

Martinez rumoured to be resting as much as all 10 outfield players. Probably will be one or two less than that.

Hope we smash these fucks now and let all the air out of their balloon so they go out the next round.

Given our recent record in tournament football is woeful - just 3 wins in our last 9 matches including insipid draws against Russia, Slovakia and Costa Rica as well as a disastrous defeat to Iceland - it's a little premature to start plotting our easiest route to the final. It's also very easy to imagine us 'celebrating' coming second of the group only for us to come unstuck against whoever it is that finishes top of group H.

It's sounding like Southgate is going to make loads of changes, in which case I can see the match ending up a draw and that means we will probably top the group anyway.

It’s a joke if he rests everyone.

Need to keep up the momentum and disrespectful to the tournament.

Southgate will get pelters for this and it’s a shame as everyone has been on board with him so far.

I think that even if Southgate heavily rotates he won't be aiming for 2nd place. He'll put out a team that he believes can win, while giving a lot of our squad players some game time.

It sounds like he's resting a couple too many and I'll be a bit annoyed if Delph and Jones are starting, but I don't think Southgate is being cynical here, unlike the Belgians.
