World Cup burn out

Just looking at which of our players are likely to be most burnt out at the start of next season. Of course all the top EPL teams face similar issues though Chelsea , Liverpool and Arsenal have I believe less players affected.

Eriksen - I think he looked pretty jaded in all the games so maybe it’s not a bad thing they lost today.

Son - God only knows what condition he will be in when he finally returns after the Asia Cup.

Kane - Has looked pretty sharp so far so maybe his enforced injury absences may prove to not be a bad thing in terms of next season

Dele - Has played less than 1 match so hopefully ok depending obviously on how far England go and if he is in the team.

Davinson - Hopefully his World Cup ends on Tuesday. Needs a rest !

Lloris - Even keepers need breaks and France may go all the way

Trippier - He has been pretty all action so could be a worry if England go far despite a few rotations by Poch last season.

Vertonghen - Another worry after a very demanding season and Belgium at least likely to reach quarters.

Dier and Rose - Not likely to play much. Rose needs matches anyway

Toby and Dembele - Unlikely to be with us.

Would be interested in what others think ....

I expect that their pre-season training will be suitably adapted and will go a long way to mitigate the effects of any potential burn-out.

There's still quite a way to go before the season starts, and as you say, for some players, the WC games may even be an advantage, so overall, I'm not too worried.

Only 2 I’d be majorly concerned about is kane and vertonghen depending how far England and Belgium go. Eriksen can get a decent 3 week rest in now.Everyone else has had a rest with us or England.

All the WC players will get a holiday and won't return to training until later. There's the trip to the US as well, which despite the PR training and friendlies, is essentially a big jolly for the lads.

They'll be reet. Happens every other summer.

There’s a major tournament every two years, has been since forever. I don’t know why this year more than any other year is any different. Like you say, every team has its players there. The players will be fine and rested by the start of the season.

As an aside note, I would happily get rid of the EURO’s and just have the World Cup.

39 Days is not that long at all. Even if England get knocked out tonight and Belgium get dumped out in the quarter final Kane, Dele, Verts, Eriksen and Trippier most likely won't be firing on all cylinders when we kick off against Newcastle.

How much rest do you believe a player needs?

Sounds about right to me, physically you'd think a week is heaps of time off but mentally they would need those extra few weeks to recharge

I think it's more mental than physical as you say. Clearing everything about last season and the WC (however it goes for the different players) and then coming back hungry for the new season.

It’s actually hard to think of another sport where athletes have to perform at 100% 9/10 months a year and every 3 or 7 days under such scrutiny like the PL .If a player is even 5% off these days he will get called out. Maybe tennis is closest but then it’s only you that suffers not a team. Rugby cricket I reckon you can get away with a bit if you’re not 100% physically at it. Must be hugely mentally draining to get yourself up for big game after big game. And that’s without all the outside media pressures. It’s not surprising only the very few maintain consistent high levels.

The first international break - are those friendlies, or is that the start of the new nations league?

Really would be nice for national teams to select non-WC players when possible for that break.

Yep, bit of time to switch off from football and return hungry

I'm not worried about this one bit, it only means the likes of Lamela and Moura will have more room to shine next season.

Kane, Alli and Trip might be emotionally burnt out at the end of this, I'm done already.

I haven’t worked it out but I’m guessing we have more players left in the World Cup than any other EPL. Either us or City. I’m too drained to work it out. It’s worth it anyway. Spurs players finally win a shoot out for England !

They won't be subjected to Poch's intense training, Poch would be a fool to put them through that.

I'm actually worried about Dele Alli he has covered so much mileage in games to my eye...his doing a lot of pressing, not meaning to have a go at Linguard (actually like him) but I feel he isn't contributing off the ball as much and Alli has been covering a lot more donkey work.

(Is that just Tottenham bias speaking)
