The OS have moved quicker than before and announced our new first year intake, so thought I might as well create the new thread. Hasn't quite been the exciting summer of international youth football but interesting stuff happening nonetheless. With England getting to the semi-final of the World Cup containing a lot of players from England's first successful year group in a long time (93s) we look forward to being able to supplement those with the highly successful 97 age group and the equally or arguably more talented 99/00 age groups, to hopefully have a very successful future.

Also, the other big talking point is the moving of English talent to the European leagues, which will hopefully prove to be very beneficial to the country, as players are finally cottoning on to the fact that regardless of how good you are chances are few and far between in a league awash with money, and little patience. For us Veljkovic was probably the first example of that, though a foreign player moving to another country to seek chances isn't that surprising, and it so far appears to be a good decision as he went to the World Cup. But English players taking that step is a much bigger talking point and we have lost 2 talented in Bennetts and Madueke and it will be interesting to see how they develop, and whether the success of English players will give the managers/owners the kick up the arse they need to see the value in playing them rather than buying elsewhere. I'm sure everyone wishes them luck, as it will help us attract talented young players if they know their education here will lead them to professional career in the future.

In terms of youth football the u19 Euros will be starting on the 16th July with all of the England's games being televised by Sky. The team looks severely depleted and people are questioning the timing of such a tournament as a lot of the players are being taken on their clubs preseason tours. There is an argument that that an the u17 Euros should switch places so this does not happen again. The squad will be announced on Monday but right now it looks as though Tanganga will be our only representative. So it will be worth tuning in for that. There is still a good chance we can go deep into it, though with a lot of new faces ti will be interesting to see if they gel. This year is also a qualification for next years u20s World Cup so I think we need to get to the semis, as they will be another World Cup I'd expect us to win if we get there.

This thread primarily follows the u21’s, u18’s and other Spurs youth teams in the various competitions and tournaments throughout the season – the u18 league, u23 league, ‘UEFA Youth League’ for u19’s and the ‘Checkatrade Trophy’, . However, this thread is also for any Spurs youth team and if you have any information about u16 to lower that you feel is worthy of sharing then please post.

As the season goes on we will no doubt enter various competitions at various age groups, and they will be posted when they are known. Otherwise if you want the current arranged fixtures go to the Official Site.

There is a development squad game on the 23rd July against Enfield Town. I know there is another tournament we usually have abroad but I can't find it but someone will post in the thread as and when it appears. EDIT- http://www.stage-preparation-bretagne.com/fr/le-tournoi-europeen-des-centres-u21/

Let's hope there is some academy success this year and we can start bring some players through into the first team.

Surprised to see Ryan Loft getting a contract with Leicester City, gonna be in their development squad.
http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11712/11437377/ryan-loft-signs-two-year-leicester-contract
Thought for sure he was headed for non league football or something like that.
Ryan Loft has signed for Leicester on a 2 year deal. I didn't see that coming, I thought he would join a League One or even League Two club.

Tbf his main problem was his ability to waste chance, otherwise he was the Crouch type, big lad with good feet and hold up play. They have probably seen something to work with but he needs to be a lot more consistent and improve his finishing

The u15s are in Florida, I am trying to find what tournament they might be at. Does anyone remember any previous tournaments we've been on before in that part of the world in the summer. I doubt it's IMG Cup as that is usually in December

Our u18s beat Ipswich in their first game of preseason 3-0, Goals: Bennett x 2 and Maghoma, Assists: Maghoma x 2 assists and Cooper got one.

Our u16s also played and won 3-2. Aird-Munn scored 2. I assume that would have also been against Ipswich

Interesting to see if Paris Maghoma can kick on. Had high hopes for him was superb in that U17 tournament early last season but then he seemed to tail off a bit as season went on.

the frustrating thing with maghoma is that he can go from looking like the best player on the pitch to the worst within seconds, so many times you'll see him silkily take the ball down and beat a player but then he'll follow it up by passing the ball out of play or something. bennetts was exactly the same at that age though and he's managed to cut down on a lot of the rubbish stuff so hopefully paris can do the same as he does have ability, i think his lackadaisical movement will put a lot of people off him though.

Poch Junior still about or has he been quietly let go?

he's still here.

@IGSpur - thank you for creating the new thread for the coming season.

We have some very talented players in our youth system, and hopefully many will go on to have good professional careers either with us or, like Smith & Daniels @ Bournemouth, Alex Pritchard, Jake Livermore, Ryan Fredericks etc, with other clubs.

As the excellent debate in last season's thread demonstrated, it does feel as if both our Academy and those of all the top PL clubs are at a tipping point, as some of the most talented young players opt to move abroad as teenagers, rather than continuing to develop in domestic programmes.

Given this, I believe what happens with three of our brightest young talents, who are now 20-21 years old and have trained with the first team for a couple of seasons, will have a huge impact on how the younger players in our Academy decide to progress their careers.

Without rehearsing all the reasons why they were Academy standouts, Josh Onomah (21), Kyle Walker-Peters (21) and Cameron Carter-Vickers (now a full American international at the age of 20, without ever appearing in the PL), are embarking on a crucial season.

The Home Grown rules, both in domestic and European football, make our Academy players especially important in ensuring a strong squad. Harry Kane is not just a crucial member of our team, he's also club-trained which makes him more valuable to Spurs than any other club in the world. Kieran Tripper has added value because he is English association trained, but to Man City he would count as club-trained and thus be even more important. (NB I'm not suggesting we sell Trippier to Shitty, just making the point about added value.)

So, I believe it's crucial that the club demonstrates that it is giving Josh, KWP and CCV every chance to continue their development. For me, this means that if they impress sufficientily in pre-season, they become proper members of the squad, getting real opportunities (eg KWP as one of 4, not 5, FB/WBs, Josh getting time in CM not a couple of minutes as a wide AM).

If on the other hand Poch and our coaches are not prepared to trust them with meaningful squad places, then we need to secure loans that will offer the best chance of their playing regularly in footballing teams. Ie strategic loans, which will genuinely help the player develop and give him a better chance of breaking through in a season's time.

We're now London's only club in the CL, so the level required to play in our first team is very high. But there are plenty of examples of players coming through top club Academies and even being sold with a buyback clause before becoming first team regulars. An example is Dani Carvajal, who came through Real Madrid's Academy, was sold to Leverkusen, bought back by RM and is now their & Spain's first choice RB.

CCV had two interesting loan spells last season, one at Sheffield Utd which was going very well and then seemed to blow up with him out of the team. We were proactive, terminated the loan and he had a second, promising, loan spell at Ipswich with McCarthy desperate to re-sign him. But we all know CBs take time to develop and really learn their defensive trade, as John Stones demonstrated in the WC semi-final. CCV needs to play competitive football and Poch & the club need to work out where he will best continue to develop next season.

I believe that if we can demonstrate that we are looking after the Onomah/KWP/CCV generation, and helping them grow and become better footballers through carefully judged loans if necessary, then some of the talented youngsters listed in the OP may also continue with us into their late teens & 20s, rather than opting to move abroad like Keanan Bennetts.

Worth noting that McCarthy is no longer Ipswich manager, so Ipswich might not be interested in CCV anymore.

I know. And as a full American international, I think if we decide to loan CCV, we should probably be looking at a higher level.

Thanks @IGSpur for setting up the thread again with a really useful round-up of info. This is always one of the most informative and interesting threads on SC.

Just wondering though, surely KWP is in the first team squad now not the dev squad?

Wonder if it’s a coincidence that Maghoma TOB Onomah all have that same lazy style or they hung out with dembele for too long lol.

Oooo contentious comment early on the first page. I didn't even think about moving him, as he has featured for our first team a lot less than 18yo Reiss Nelson has featured for Arsenal's first team, and my understanding is Nelson isn't even considered part of their first team (Nelson was just a random academy player I plucked out of the air, that I thought would have made appearances). BUT the OS does have KWP listed under first team so I will remove his name.

Eek! didn’t realise I was being contentious - sorry!

I suppose I just thought KWP has been training with the first team squad, even though he hasn’t had a lot of game time, but didn’t think he was either training or playing with the dev squad any more - but maybe I’m wrong about that. Did he play u23s last season? If not, in effect he’s a first team squad member.
