This is why Levy is a genius and I am just a bum with a keyboard:

Levy could have signed Zaha a month ago, and if he had, all summer people would be complaining about how Levy overpaid for a pacy winger with no end product. Instead he waits until the end of the window, people panic, and are begging him to sign a pacy winger with no end product.

Good news is, we have just signed a player who is 4 months older than Zaha, plays the same position and role, and has proven far more in his career for the next 5 seasons.

If Zaha is worth £60/70m then Son is in the £100millions.
No offence mate but do you really think that or did I miss a joke? I know we all have different opinions but much as I like Son I just don't see that.
If it is true that Zaha has put in a transfer request it does make me wonder if he stayed last season with the impression that Roy Hodgson would have a year to sort out Palace and he would have an opportunity to leave again this year.
By the end of the window last summer Palace were rock bottom and needed him desperately and he kept them up so maybe he feels he kept his end of the bargain and now they ought to keep their's.

Serioiusly, now that @Hercules has told us that Llorente will probably end up as a "giveaway", let's try to include him as a sweetener in any Zaha deal.

When he was playing regularly in a side built to his strengths, he scored 15 goals in 33 games for Swansea. A goal return anywhere near that could be the difference between staying up and relegation for Palace next season.

£40 million plus Llorente plus Sissoko (who's a decent fit for a Hodgson 4-4-2 as he works hard and lacks technical quality, precisely the kind of player Roy has spent a career coaching).

That's a decent deal.

I'd also loan or sell them Janssen if they preferred him to Llorente. He's another player who could prosper with regular football under Hodgson.

Also a complicated deal. Two clubs, three players plus all the agents and everyone else involved.

I like Zaha. Son is better.

Son as a second fiddle player to Harry has 26 goals and 12 assists in the last two seasons. Zaha as the main man at his club, who everything goes through, has 16 and 12. Yes, Son plays in a better side with more creative players, but he’s also played in a side where he’s fourth in order of where emphasis goes behind Kane, Eriksen and Dele which mitigated this somewhat.

Zaha is very easy on the eye and probably a more exciting player, I’d be delighted to sign him, but Son has proven himself more. I’d quite like them both, either flank, but then I think Moura should get a shot too.

I remain to be convinced.
Son has double-digit goals in 5 of the last 6 seasons across Bundesliga and PL.

Zaha has 0 double-digit goal seasons ever

Son has 72 goals in 240 senior matches (including 30 for Spurs in 99 matches)
Zaha has 35 goals in 269 senior matches

It not even close.

Anybody have a Palace supporting mate? Be interesting to know what their ITK's are saying.

Sure. Who said transfer deals are easy. And the players absolutely have a right to say No. My favourite Younes Kaboul quotes of all time came when Levy tried to send him to Sunderland as a part of a massive four player BOGOF gone insane deal.

"He (Levy) wanted to treat us like a cow. I said to him, ‘I have a personality and a mind of my own, I am not a dog'. He said I was going to Sunderland, but I said, ‘I go where I want, not where you want me to go'.
"Sunderland are a decent club but I do not like people imposing anything on me, like you are a dog. Life is not like this."

But Palace is a Premier League club based in London. Sissoko and Llorente (& their agents) might need a bit of sweetening to accept going there, but I'm sure we could all think of many worse places to work when you're earning the colossal salaries these guys are.

Nevertheless Wilfrid Zaha carried Crystal Palace pretty much on his own last season, they were two different teams, one with him and one without and I don't think Son could have done that, that said I am not knocking Son even though he frustrates me sometimes, I just don't agree that he is worth getting on for twice as much as Zaha.
I would be optimistic that playing for us he could reach double figures along with his assists.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Zaha would work for us?

Even if we forget the proposed fee - and that's not easy - he has the entire team built around him at Palace and their best form came with him in a free role. He looks very nice on Match of the Day or whatever, but as far as I can see with my uneducated footballing eyes, there's very little to suggest he'd fit in with a disciplined system like ours.

It's not all about goals though - it's about chances created too and the type of player who can enable us to play in a different way if required - I really like Zaha and think he would be excellent for us.

Can someone show me the ITK where we we're buying Zaha to replace Son?
I don't know. But if you are looking for ITK - you are in the wrong thread...

Zaha plays best on the left. Son plays best on the left. Unless we are going to play with two left-wingers, we are either going to play one in a weaker position - on the right ahead of Lucas and Lamela, or they are going to rotate in their preferred position.

Unless you think Zaha is coming in to replace Dele or Eriksen...

Or maybe one just needs to look at Son(and our other wide players) and it’s not a far reach that Zaha, while exciting, is far from necessary given our other potential requirements.

I'm not sure I buy this, Sterling scored over 20 goals for Man City and is behind KDB, Silva, Aguero/Jesus and possibly Sane in the pecking order there, do you honestly think he'd have scored that amount of goals in Zaha's role at Palace?

Regardless the idea is that we have both Sonny and Zaha, and if both aren't playing then we have a substitute that will scare tired defenders either way.

I'll bite. How is it you think we will play with Zaha that is different than when we play with Son?

How many times did Palace run into a defense that stayed deep and compact last season? What makes you think Zaha will excel against those teams? Unless we intend to play more route 1, I don't think Zaha's pace will be much of a factor.

Don't get me wrong though - if we sign Zaha, I will support him as I do any Spurs player. I just think its a waste of money for the player - since I don't think he is better than our other options and its too much money to spend on a rotation player.

He would create opportunities for others as will Lucas Moura because they can both attack at pace and keep the ball. Gaps will open up in opposition defences as their defenders move to stop them and we have quality players to take advantage of those gaps.

Poch rarely plays more than one winger/inside forward, why do we need 4 of them?
