We will announce Eriksen and Alli extensions soon to appease the fans and probably make 1 or 2 signings on transfer deadline day. Don't see anything else other than that, which is IMO, pathetic from our club.

Not sure about that tbh. Our central midfield options are quite limited. We heard the other day that Wanyama has injured the same troublesome knee he had last season, which is a real worry. Winks is still recovering from his previous injury (only 16 league appearances last season). As for Dembele - I've always been a massive fan but he looked like he was on his last legs towards the end of the season and I have severe doubts that he can get through unscathed in the upcoming campaign. He even said that himself not so long ago.

So while I think we have a settled defence and attack, in my view our deficiencies in midfield have been apparent for a while now and it would be a real shame if we didn't try to address that.

I do agree but my point was more that we know our squad as it is and we know what our players can do. Granted we may not know exactly who will play vs Toon right now but whoever it is they are already settled and know what Poch expects of them.

This thread is an actual embarrassment.

I can understand the criticism but wanting Levy out? Pathetic.

Pathetic, isn't it?

People spend six weeks talking themselves up into a state of hysteria (we're gonna sign Bale!!/Pusilic is our man!/Martial will take us to the next level!!!) then act like spoilt teenagers when deals that were only ever in their heads don't materialise.

Reading ISO-certified idiots yapping on about 'the next level', 'we need to make a statement' and 'Levy out' makes me despair of our support. Stupid whiny children a lot of them, sad to say.

We will buy if if we think the price and the player is right for the club. Sometimes those deals don't work out, same goes for every club. More often than not lately we've got it right.

JJ In response to Ali Gold saying that Poch suggesting there could be no signings leading to a fanbase meltdown:

Exactly we are trying to get players but selling clubs don’t want to sell exactly like we don’t until our prices are met - it’s not through want of trying or lack of inertia - it’s too convenient to just blame club but stupid market

Makes you think we should've just paid an extra £5m to get that Grealish deal done earlier.

My understanding of the situation is that we had the deal lined up how we wanted it but then delayed cos we had other targets in his position that we were considering. Then the owners came in and jacked up the price and we pretty much walked away because it wasn't worth doing at the new price. It was essentially only a deal worth doing when it was cut price.

I could have that wrong but that's what I've gathered from stuff I've read.

Well I don't disagree with that. Having settled players is a good thing, but I'm just worried about the quality. If we're starting the season with, say, Dier and Sissoko in the CM positions, then something has gone awry with our recruitment.

The only pathetic thing I'm seeing is the behaviour of some of our fans that have no self-control, have fully bought in to some of the early ITK about big spending without applying salt and now act as though they've been promised something they aren't going to get. We're all frustrated by the lack of activity in the market at the moment but some of the posts in here are nothing short of a disgrace. This forum is no fun at all to come on lately with all this vitriol in every thread. Personally can't wait for this window to shut.

Depends on who those one / two signings are though? Levy is discovering first hand how hard it is to ship away the "Deadwood" ergo Janssen, N'koudo at the moment. Hence I hope that the lesson is learnt and that any signing this window is based on quality and need rather than opportunity and price.

Yeah, I guess I deserve a couple of optimistic ratings for this one. But hey I'll carry the burden for ya'll.

I’d almost go as far to say Liverpool have been “brave” in the market and bought what they needed before selling, they are set to challenge this season. Yes the market is difficult but there are ways round it if really want to get the players you want instead of playing poker

Scenario...we go out and buy 3 players costing between 120 and 150 mil on the basis we can recoup most of that on the sales of Toby Dembele and Rose. Window closes hurrah we have been Brave!!!

No bids come in for those players but we get a 150mil bid for Kane with a couple of days left, now what do you think will happen knowing we need to balance the books?

I don't know what the situation is at Pool but what I do know is they are trying to shift a lot of fringe players and as of yet they can't.

With the possibilty of no new players, no strengthing of the squad, other clubs have strengthened, Poch must know he's staring down the barell of a tough season and no trophies. Not something he signed up for when agreeing a new contract

If any other team signed Toby, Vertonghen, Alli, Kane, Trippier and Son, people would say they would win the league.

We already have them, plus more.

I'm sorry, but if Pochettino can't win something with the squad at his current disposal then he's not very good. It's still the strongest team we've had for a long long time

Also Liverpool have more money than us.

Everton spent £50m on Richarlison. So I’m sure there’s signings to be made if you’re willing to pay well over the odds.

£50m for a player who probably wouldn’t improve us shows how much we’d need to spend.

Chelsea spent £50m on a player who probably would have improved us.

We still have Dembele!

Wow. That's some next level BSoDL'ing there. It's all Poch's fault. Best sequence of league finishes in my lifetime playing great football, but 'not very good' if he doesn't get a trophy..

Poch is holding his own against much much richer teams with his arms tied behind his back, even as we get ever more TV and sponsorship money which he'll never see.
