Not strange at all.

Stoof asked you “...what expectations did the club itself give you?”

You replied, “I certainly have been given information about us being interested in Martial and Zaha among others.”

I was naturally interested in clarifying if an employee of the club had given you that information.

What's strange about that?

Okay... thought the whole of my post gave the total answer.

We had ITK from severdig that we were trying for Martial in a switch with Toby. ITK to me is reliable as the sources have been confirmed by the mods. We have also had ITK that we were interested in Zaha. Both these deals and others have also been widely reported by the media. Not to mention Grealish who was confirmed by Bruce to be close.

So my assumption is that the club had a plan for strengthening this summer.

What have the club said directly? very little, other than the stadium investment will not affect our transfer budget and that we are very ambitious. Also Poch statements that I refered to in my previous post.

So I assume that there was a plan for strengthening and the funds - wich then leads us fans (me atleast) to have expectations. So if the strategy was to buy our targets or nothing at all - then fine, but at least be open about it.

If the strategy was ti strengthen period - then we have failed (no doubt about that?)

That is all I am saying.

Still

You don't sign players just for the sake of signing. Each new player must add value to the squad at a price that's not overvalued. That said, and I sincerely hope I'm wrong on this, this may signal the end of the Poch era, no matter how we do. If we underachieve at the end of the season, then Poch may think that without the resources to sign top players, he has taken the team as far as he could, and time is ripe to seek greener pastures. On the other hand, if we overachieve, and win a trophy, then he might be viewed as a modern day David who, with a sling-shot and some moth-balls (albeit some very large moth-bals) located in a hope-chest, slays the over-paid and over-sex giants of Klopp, Mourinho and Guardiola. The likes of RM would underdoubtledly hand over a blank cheque to Poch and ask him to fill in whatever figure he wants. I sincerely hope my fear is overblown.

I'm not going to overreact, we are a good side and will do ok this season, but I think not addressing the clear weaknesses in our side is amateur and shows our naivety as a "big side".

Treading water is a perfectly good way of staying afloat but do it for too long and you will sink. We have see a rise over recent seasons due to performance spikes from our core players. How long can we reasonably expect that to continue?

More worryingly is we have abandoned our strategy of finding players that aren't top level but suit our style. A strategy that had seen us sign Alli, Dier, Son, Trippier, Davies and Sanchez who are all important member of our squad.

Momentum is important in football. We may hit a rough patch when we move into our new stadium and the boost of some fresh faces might have helped us kick on. I guess we will never know.

Poch talked about being brave and we have certainly done that. To watch sides that finished narrowly behind you strengthen but to not act and put trust in youth players that have barely played is very brave. I hope it works out. Falling out of the CL for a side unwilling to buy their way back in like us could be crucial. Let's pray for some good luck this year.

The only thing that concerns me now are the unsigned contracts. I just hope that they are ready to be announced.

The last two sentences sum it up for me...
If we don't qualify for CL this time around we could be fucked. That's a huge gamble to make when deciding not to invest this summer.

So what the fuck are you actually saying?

You feel entitled because you are paying more for your ticket now.
Then in the very next sentence, you're laughing at the idea of you being entitled...

Like i said, get a grip...

I think once the dust has settled, you are going to enjoy an amazing experience at the new stadium - which i am incredibly jealous of - and hopefully with a few results under our belt and the new gaff bedded in nicely, we'll be back at the real action - football!

Chin-up my Spurs brother, lets fucking have it!
All right, fair enough, hope you're right re new stadium experience!

OK, that's cool.

With information swirling around through ITKs, media, etc., it is difficult to pin down its origins.

Your reply to Stoof may have been clear in your head, but it was ambiguous, to say the least.

If the Club itself did not raise your expectations regarding Martial and Zaha, then they are blameless in that respect, and I am happier.

Thank you for making it clearer.

Another thought. Is the reason for no investment, the possible sale of the club ?

2/3 transfer windows and we have had the chance to get Sess, Grealish, and Barkley. Silly mistakes by the board. Our chickens will come home to roost.

Please forgive my little rant (ish). The best ITK (POCH) promised and assured we would be signing players! What happened?

Anywayz-My rant over

We couldn't get the players we wanted? Or we couldn't agree with selling Clubs in a crazy market?

To be honest, if we couldn't aquire who we wanted to improve a very good team, I'm fine with that.

No point stock piling players Poch doesn't even want, let alone thinking about trying to move them on in a years time.

I remember ITK of us going back for Sancho this summer and we failed to bring Sessegnon again. And I can see us trying to sign them in a few years and being happy to spend 100m for them. We have a decent squad but we have 2 injury prone midfielders and overall our midfield will get completely outclassed by the likes of Liverpool, City and Chelsea. Croatia showed how important it is to have good amd balanced midfield at World Cup. And Pochettino talking about wanting to challenge for the title makes me think that he won't be happy with being Wenger 2.0 and waiting for Levy to pay off new stadium. And at least Wenger would sign couple of HG youngsters every transfer window. It's stupid to take such risks and not making CL could just lose us money in the end and maybe someone like Eriksen. At least Toby stayed I guess but even Crystal Palace and Aston Villa managed to keep their top players.

Ultimately the test of how royally we’ve fucked up this transfer window won’t be known until May next year. We have a decent squad that’s perfectly able to challenge for a top 4 position. We’ve just not addressed any of our weaknesses that stopped us mounting a serious title challenge or competing effectively across multiple competitions. We might retain a top 4 place if we’re lucky with injuries and we might even fluke some silverware this year with a fair wind but we won’t sustain it season on season without investment in the squad. Albeit that needs to be investment in the right calibre of player rather than panic buys. I’m disappointed we didn’t get a couple in or at least one statement buy but will reserve judgement on how much of a disaster that is until nearer the end of the season. Just hope Poch sticks with us that long and the bald twat hasn’t totally pissed him off behind closed doors.
