Match: English Premier League - Round 1

When: Saturday 11th August 2018

Where: St James's Park

Kick Off: 1230 pm

Referee: Martin Atkinson

Newcastle have lost their last two league games meetings with us, failing to score in both those games. They last lost three in a row against us in 2005 (four consecutive defeats, all without scoring)

At St James' Park , Newcastle have lost three of their last four clashes with us, with that win coming via their 5-1 win on the final day of 2015-16 season. We have only failed to score in one of their last 25 EPL meetings with Newcastle - a 0-1 home defeat in November 2013.

This will be the fourth time Newcastle and us have met on the opening weekend of an EPL campaign, more often than any other fixture in the competition. Newcastle have lost just one of their eight home league games in 2018, vs WBA in April. This run includes victories over Manu Arsenal and Chelsea, who all finished in the top six in 2017 - 18

We are playing our first match of the season away from home for the eighth consecutive campaign. In the English top - flight history, only Burnley have ever had a longer such run of playing away in a season opener (nine games between 1888 - 89 and 1896 - 97

We have lost just one of our nine away legue games in 2018 (W5, D3, L1), losing to WBA in May. Only Man City (41) have won more EPL points so far in 2018, we have 40.

Harry Kane has never scored a premier league goal in the month of August, despite playing 13 games, 898 minutes and attempting 44 shots

Hoping for a back 3 of Jan-Sanchez-Toby so we can make the most of keeping Toby.

He’s too good to be left rotting in the reserves and hasn’t kicked up a fuss in public despite being left out all last year

Yep. If we’ve kept him it’s important it’s a fresh start. Get him in the side

I'm buzzing. Woke up early despite going to bed late. Skimming through today's news and grabbing a cup of coffee and just counting the few hours that are left

I’ve missed this so much. Back to the football at last. Put Moura in my fantasy team yesterday so really hoping he lights things up today.

Good luck for the season everyone and Up The Spurs

Totally agree and those 3 would be rock solid (to balance out potential brain farts from Aurier).

Meltdown prediction times ladies and gentlemen. I'll go for 5 minutes after kick off.

I think we will win today. Expect some vocal protests from the toon fans towards Ashley, which will hopefully negatively affect their team. Hoping we hit the ground running and shut up a few naysayers. COYS.

I'd quite like to see Eriksen at CM today and because of shortages in that area this may actually happen. Depends if Poch fancies Skipp or Amos

I'd also expect Sissoko at DCM, with Lamela and Moura (obviously) starting in forward rioles

Interesting to see if Kane starts up front, or whether Son does, with Kane coming on later

Anyway, glad the football's back; hopefully we can play to the best of our ability and not have an underwhelming TW put a cloud over us

i have a good feeling Kane will start and the team will be pretty strong , possibly a weird setup in centre mid but behind the striker it should be strong with lucas, eriksen and son (unless of course son has shipped off to the tournament)

No, I think I read somewhere that Son will 100% start in this game and then leave for the tourney shortly afterwards
