Oh god. I thought the way PSU handled Sandusky was so awful that anyone would learn from it. Then MSU said hold my beer. Christ. This reaction is making PSU's seem brilliant. Holy shit. Amateur hour. All the way from MSU's president's tone deaf resignation letter to Dantonio and Izzo today. If those 2 buffoons last the weekend, i'll be shocked. This stuff runs so deep at that place. Nasser was like the tip of the iceberg there.

From trying to skirt around Title IX, trying their damnedest to shut ESPN up when they were going after this before, the multitude of cover ups of allegations that continued to be brought forward against a multitude of athletes. There might not be actual NCAA violations but I consider this a complete lack of institutional control. But shame on the NCAA president. He knew about sexual assault issues at MSU 8 fucking years ago and did absolutely nothing. He let this continue!

The SEC is considering allowing colleges to sell alcohol inside the stadiums (of course the bastards would wait till after I had graduated and moved back to Blighty...perhaps I could go to grad school...). I would love to see how much merlot and chardonnay Vandy could sell in a season.

I've always thought it was just a matter of time. A really obvious way to make a shit load more money was always going to be hard to resist. I know a lot of campuses just have a blanket ban on alcohol so that's part of the reason it's been the way it has, and I understand that in terms of bringing alcohol into dorm rooms etc. but really if you're in the stadium or at a tailgate I don't see why people who are legally old enough to drink shouldn't be allowed to have a couple of beers or whatever.

Apparently, Texas makes over $2.5m in beer sales alone so I can understand why a number of colleges want this.

It's ridiculous that at LSU we're allowed to drink anywhere on campus except in the stadium. We used to double fist beers whilst queueing to get into the stadium. The common sense idea is to let schools decide for themselves.

Yeah it's a no-brainer in terms of making money to be honest. With very minimal effort team will earn millions of dollars extra. I agree, let schools decide for themselves definitely, but I imagine most will take up the offer. A&M, for example, is quite religious apparently so I suppose some like that might decide to keep the moral highground. I guess we'll see.

That LSU situation is hilarious to be fair, I didn't realise that was even a thing. I was under the impression that the colleges were all dry campuses but to have a "wet" campus but dry stadium is just bizarre

Lol ohio state. Way to fuck this one up. Jesus christ. We got a cover up over a coach beating his wife(now ex), said coach and protege taking after mentor in banging coeds, and a whole bunch of lies and misremembering. Yet, a 3 game suspension suffices? Eesh.

The thing I can't get my head around is that even if you look past the domestic violence, drugs, affairs, and just generally being a bit of a sex-pest, Smith still seems like he was just a pretty terrible employee anyway. While I'm not condoning it in the slightest, you could somewhat understand how they might be tempted to look the other way on his behaviour if he was an excellent coach and crucial to their success i.e. irreplaceable, but it sounds like he was just a bit shit generally at his job so why the need to allow all this to go on and give him warning after warning?

The couldn’t sack him, because if they did then he’d get a job somewhere else and they’d have to find someone else who’s not as good.

This was simply business, they don’t give a shit about morales or ethics or human decency. So they do the bare minimum possible to look like they do give a shit.

And any other large football university would have done the same thing as long as the coach is winning games,

Exactly. Just as Michigan State and Penn State. Both of whom had transgressions faaaaaar worse. Paterno only get fired because there was literally no other choice besides starting completely fresh

RIght I get that, but what I don't understand is why he was Urban's guy. Like I say it sounds like he was doing a pretty terrible job generally even if you ignore the indiscretions.

As above, I would understand that if it was a case of having to replace him with someone not as good, but based on all the stuff that's coming out, even if you ignore the really bad stuff, behind it all it sounds like he was not even a particularly good assistant coach anyway therefore I find it hard to believe they'd have trouble replacing him with someone equally as shit.

Why can't the NCAA, other than being cowards, not step in and give him a longer ban? Players have gotten longer for very minor things

All the NCAA are bothered about is making as much money as possible by exploiting the athletes so they don't give a second's thought to the coaches.

His grandfather is the late Earle Bruce, Urban’s mentor.

UT has only had beer sales for a couple of seasons. Before that we had to sneak a flask in.

Meyer will tolerate any sort of lowlife to win (Aaron Hernandez), but Im kinda sympathetic on this one. If the police had already become involved and Smith not convicted yet of anything Im not sure he should have been fired initially. Anyway, Zach and his mommy are having a twitter meltdown today.

There are multiple texts and pictures but if you read some of the snippets that have come out, it sounds like Smith was also pretty much playing with OSU’s money as he cant pay for shit himself(guys credit has got to be in the dumpster)

My main problem with the Meyer thing is how it's been handled. By putting a deadline for before the season starts on the investigation Ohio St made it clear they didn't want it to impact this season. By having Meyer do his press conference the day before the full report was released Ohio St made it clear they didn't want him in a position where he would have to answer some difficult questions. From the start Ohio St has made it clear they want this whole thing to disappear. It's up to the press to make sure Ohio St and Meyer don't get away with this. When Meyer returns from his hiatus the first questions asked of him should relate to the findings of the report.
