Talk of getting rid etc is very much premature, if it does get that bad and it isnt yet, Pochettino absolutely deserves the opportunity to turn it around.
He deserves the season. Guy’s been immense. I just worry he’ll go because something isn’t right. If he goes to Utd, we’ll be fucking pissed off because with those resources he’ll be immense

I think it's a fair point - it's disrespectful to Aurier and Sanchez to say Trippier and Alderweireld would have made a difference.
I agree, but you would likely ask why two first-team players and current starters were left out for technical reasons. Let's be honest there isn't anyone who thought Aurier starting was a good thing right? Granted he had a good game tonight, but for the most part you put Tripps in - Sanchez over Toby isn't as clear-cut, as Sanchez has played well for the most part since coming, but having Toby left at home without considering him as at least a sub is very strange, as is the same for Tripps.

From the Pochettino press conference transcript

In hindsight, do you regret leaving Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier behind at home?
Why?

Because you'd have two more internationals to bring on...

Against Watford and against Liverpool, they were on the pitch. Wow, what a question, such an easy question eh? You know, easy target. Easy to talk about the players that aren’t here like Hugo or Dele Alli or Sissoko.

I think we need to talk about football. Because, you know I think you force me to say something that is not good. You disrespect the players that today showed the best qualities than the opponent.

Why disrespect the players that aren’t on the pitch? You can blame me and say 'gaffer, you were so so rubbish in your selection of the starting XI.

But please don't disrespect the players who were playing, because it's my decision. Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld, we have 25 players. And you believe that and sometimes you behave like you ask me with your question, that you can play only 11 and the other 13 or 14 players are rubbish, are s**t I don't know in the way that you...

It’s so easy, it's so easy I don't know. Sorry, but I am so disappointed because I am a person that respect you a lot and the players. When my decision is to play with XI, you must respect my decision because I am the manager. You cannot disrespect.

You show too much disrespect for the players who play in the position as the players you have given me the names of now. I don't understand.

Sorry. You are so kind people, but I don’t understand why. Why? Please. To be a player is so difficult, and of course for me it is easier on the touchline. I don't run. It is so painful to hear when some people are not here, and you judge in that way and you kill players who give their best. It's so unfair. Sorry.

o_O You went full Mourinho, man. Never go full Mourinho.

But why does it matter? Aurier is still a better defender with more CL experience, he's still a good crosser, he's just a bit raw. Sanchez has been cool as a cucumber despite his age.

If we won, it wouldn't be questioned.

I feel sorry for Poch. Levy really has fucked him over in the ass without lube.

Poch isnt blameless dont get me wrong but as soon as we didnt strengthen Poch was already compromised. He is correct we have lost games with both Toby and Tripps and we have won games with Aurier and Sanchez.

We didnt lose because we didnt have those two, we lost because of substitutions BUT would Poch have made those substitutions if he had alternatives? I dont know. We have no midfield at the moment and we are losing games i think because of it.

They weren't to blame for tonight, both players deputised well especially Serge.

I agree. when we bought Aurier we all knew what we was getting in terms of skill, etc and they both did well tonight. That's not my main point though - I am more concerned about why you would leave two first teamers out without giving a better reason than it being technical. If he wanted to rest them, fine - but he did not say that. He could have said that to douse the flames but didn't and his reason just leaves it open for interpretation and creates more potential unrest. If rumour has it that Tripps was left out because he spoke out after the Liverpool game, then you could say the same for Toby too? With Aurier starting after seemingly poch not seeing him as a good fit for the team in such an important game will always raise eyebrows and questions.

If he had left it at that it would have been a good point quickly made.

It's very easy to play hindsight manager- when we're leading 1-0 and in control of the game it would have been odd to bring on two defenders. If we did that and lost control of the game by letting them have the ball and conceded then people will criticise for being too negative.

The reality is simple - we didn't play a great game. But we did enough to say on the balance of play we were the better team. But we lost again which shows a) a lack of resilience b) a serious problem with set pieces and c) why aren't we playing to our full capability.

Six games into the season and we had one half against Utd and half an hour against Fulham where we played good.

That's just one his weaknesses. He takes the ambiguity too far.

You wouldn't want Redknapp levels of honesty, but Poch seems to have handled things "privately" quite badly since the Toby thing, and it just raises more questions than it puts to bed.

I would argue that in general, he has handled player unrest situations badly. Rose, Dier, Walker, Toby, Tripps. Each one of those at some point has played a significant part in our resurgence and it is just one of the concerns I have about him. More so when we can't replace them with players of equal skill. Since the Rose saga he has looked far from the player that once was an integral part of this team. Davies has been a downgrade. Poch's influence on the squad could be deemed detrimental.

He does have options though. He brought on Danny Rose for a striker when Llorente was sat there.

His problem is he doesn't change things when they need changing, and if he does it's often too late, and he often fucks about with subs when it's clear we need to keep things as they are. I'm by no means an expert, but I think we all see it?

Davies is especially a sticking point for me - he just doesn't look good enough for the squad, never mind being first choice. He reminds me of Kyle Naughton in such that he's not shit, but isn't good enough.

He did say they were being rested. There is quote somewhere.

Yeah totally agree. He has had no more than a handful of reasonable to good games for us.

I may be naive, but I believe him. That 35/40 minute spell of the second half was the closest we’ve come to the Pochetinno Spurs of the past few years since the start of the season, win or lose.

From his presser:

“I think we are strong, we have shown that we are going to be the same team as in the past, winning games, we have the quality. Only for different reasons we were a little bit late in our preparations, and we won some games, but I was never happy. But today I started to see good signs that the team is coming back again, and today we showed great personality, and we controlled a team that is Inter Milan, that is playing in the San Siro, a very difficult place and the team showed big character. Unlucky at the end that we didn't get the result that the team deserved. That is football and I'm sure Inter will have a different opinion but that is my assessment.”
