Wonder what’s so secretive about the laying of the turf. Obviously something they don’t want people to see.

Wonder if the turf will eventually match the astro turf colour round the outside. Looks weird at the moment.

Don't think it's anything secretive, probably just due to the site being hit yesterday and trying to find a way of it not crashing again.

That was Rochdale pitch 2 days after being laid. Not saying there is an issue, just saying we’re obviously not in a rush for it to be ready. I actually asked Darren on twitter when it would be playable and he said “ depends on the weather”

Maybe let them unroll it and give them a couple of days for it to be watered, rolled and got some sunlight then see how it looks?

I know how this works and I dare say it will not satisfy you but here you go (from ssc):

And I say he is ITK. I should know as I've followed a few.

MP himself is pretty much identifying Dec 15 as the potential first game, then the test events would be late Nov early Dec, as once they've been passed, then we are home and dry (depending on where you sit).

No. I don't understand why the pitch is being laid now. Maybe the grass can only be held in that top matrix alone for so long before it starts to get distressed. And it does look a bit distressed.
Maybe the pitch providers have another pitch to prepare and need the space.
If only we had an expert on grass on here...

I can understand why it’s being laid now. They’ve no idea how the grass is going to react to the stadium or the sliding pitch. They will be laying it ahead of time to check it out and see if it’s ok. If not then they will have given themselves a chance to rip it and relay it and try again. Although I really hope that doesn’t happen. We’ve had enough bad publicity.

Maybe they decided they don’t need any more monster cranes or destructive plant on it anymore?

I do know that the 4 lifts in the ‘corners’ are integral to the disabled access. First hand from the club.
Do they need software or can they be off line individually, even manually operated? There's not a lot of floors after all.

If they are for disabled in a building for this many people they'd have to be fire lifts and be working for evacuation purposes.

Don’t ask me, I’m not a lift engineer or even safety officer. Only know the info as given earlier.

Is it just me or does in not look particularly green and vibrant? I mean, I guess when layed next to an astroturf surface it'll never look quite the same colour, and maybe it needs time to take hold in the soil and grow out/be cut?

Any gardeners on here have some insight? I don't have a garden :(

You learn on any course in horticulture that September/October is the best time of year to lay a new lawn. It especially applies to seed-grown swards, but the same reasons also apply to pre-grown turf: there's not going to be heat stress, there's unlikely to be drought and it has enough time to get rooted into place and knitted together before winter stops it growing.

I reckon they're doing it now because any earlier would have been pointless and exposed it to potential damage, but any later risks unfavourable growing conditions.

Don't the sprinklers and growing lights compensate for the vagaries of the weather?

To an extent. But why rely on those when you can just let the sun and air get to it?

Probably put the cameras back on once the pitch is complete (or slid away)

You can still check progress through time lapse two on the stadium website though (updates ever hour or so)
