And Wright had 7 seasons playing in the Premier League, was already very experienced and Arsenal's main man when it started, and his first three seasons were in a 22 team league.
Hmmm....doesn't quite tell the whole story though. Wright was almost 30 when the Premier League started and so a lot of his appearances made were during the twilight of his career when he wasn't as good as he used to be. And whilst he did spend a couple of years alongside Bergkamp in Wenger's more free-flowing attacking side, he spent the early PL years in Graham's "Boring Boring Arsenal" where he was pretty much their only real attacking threat.
Kane's numbers are better than Wright's - both in terms of goals per game and the best goalscoring seasons of his career. But the gap isn't as big as some are making out. The more interesting comparison IMO is Kane's last four seasons Vs Shearer's four years at Blackburn. Kane has 135 from 187 in all competitions, Shearer got 130 from 171. Very similar. Then the following summer both won golden boots while reaching international semi-finals. Shearer then joined Newcastle and got 28 goals from 40 games. Kane so far has 5 from 8 at the start of this year. For the mathematicians amongst you, the figures quoted give Shearer 0.749 goals per game and Kane 0.745 goals per game which is almost identical.
