Ultimately I firmly believe Skipp will be better than dier and wanyama, he’s just a better footballer. Unfortunately it’s just a bit too early for him. Although I actually believe he could now do a job against the lesser PL teams. Nothing to really base this idea on, but wouldn’t mind seeing foyth given a crack. From what I’ve seen he technically looks better than both dier and wanyama.

Absolutely agree about Foyth but I think he's injured atm.

You want our CM to be Winks and Skipp? Seriously?

I don't need to see him play. If Poch isn't playing him he's obviously not good enough yet. I mean how raw does Skipp have to be if he can't get in ahead of Dire Dier?

Who said play them as a combination? You need passers and ball retainers in the squad. We're not blessed with options in that department.

You're still judging Skipp without actually having seen him play.

I'm sick of Dier and that's from thinking he was a great talent two years ago. This team needs freshening up and the only options we have is youth. Cardiff at home...hmmm

Don't disagree. Just reacting to where we are now. Levy/Scouts/Poch fucked up no doubt. IF we'd shipped out sonme of the dross we'd have bought I'm sure. Sadly the dross is unsellable.

So what do we haveDembele regularly knackered.
Dier lost the hunger, still a world class pointer and letting runners get behind with ease though
Wanyama is ragged and not a great passer.
Sissoko - fraudulent footballer
Winks - My best option, lost in the first half last night but shone through in the second.

You have to look at what you've got at this moment in time. Not saying I would throw Skipp in against a top team but at home against a team like Cardiff might just be an opportunity.

Agree I'd like to see him to see if he's got something about him but we both know it's not happening. It will probably be Dire and Winks.

Poch does seem blinkered where Dier is concerned.
Because he values more than just passing and silky technique.

Poch has gone on record as saying mentality is such a huge part of the game and its what wins matches. That is something Dier has in spades. Some call it pointing and shouting but its actually refocusing the team and being the on field organiser.

Ultimately Poch sees his long term future as a centre back and will probably move their once Alderwerield and Vertonghen leave but he's allowing him to learn that for himself because Dier thinks he's a better midfielder. So we will eventually have to look at other midfield options at some point anyway and especially if Toby goes this summer.

Just being a realist. Spurs aren't unique. Where are the academy kids coming through at our rivals? Hoping Skipp to be better than Dier and Wanyama?! You're going to be disappointed. That's not because Dier and Wanyama are amazing it's just because academy kids hardly ever make it at Spurs or any top club.

It is a huge problem. Players develop their all round games with game time and experience.

The Prem is so cut throat that virtually no team can afford to play young players.

I don’t believe long term loans is a perfect solution as a player needs the coaches to have an interest in their development.

France have a weaker league and by the age of 21 many players have over 60 games played. Compare this to England.

You are probably right that the likes of Skipp doesn’t have the all round game to be better than our fringe players.

Though what the answer is I do not know.

The original point was that imo Skipp will “ultimately” be better than dier/wanyama. He’s just turned 18 and I’d say ahead of schedule in terms of getting on the bench. We definitely need to buy a top draw CM and possibly a DM. But winks and Skipp are 2 fine prospects to have coming through.

Winks and Wanyama need to be given a few games to get their fitness up.

Then they can be judged.

Dier was good when he came on. Wanyama was a tad slow and looked heavy and a bit big but maybe im being harsh. He was also hampered with the yellow but yeah in my view Dier was excellent when came on

After watching the brief highlights again unfortunately I’d have to put a large part of 1st goal down to him. Comes charging out and is virtually in CF position and gets played round leaving a massive hole in middle of park. And the 3rd goal he just lets messi run off, obviously not the first to do that. But those are just the straight up facts when looking at this goals. As said who knows how fit he is.

He had a bad game but still I would like to see him more than Dier. Hopefully we'll see Winks-Wanyama against Cardiff again.

Christ I hope not. While Dier and Wanyama might not be the most creative (and boy are we short in that department), at least Dier knows how to defend.

When I first saw Wanyama against Everton for his debut, my immediate thought was Zokora Mark 2. Honest, but limited. However during the end 16/17 season he was a beast for us. The injury has set him back, and within his frame, will he ever be the same again ? Football is so nimble these days, especially with what Poch wants, I would not be surprised if we tried to get £15-20m from a lower Premier League side for him, (that's if the injury does not proclude that).
