I was speaking to one of the main contractors for Wembley over the weekend - ex partner at E C Harris (now arcadis) who was in charge of the build.

said they had big issues with the elec and fire cables due to sabotage which apparently is common on project like this. Disgruntled contractors who have their payments slashed, but get nothing if they don't complete the job. Then the construction industry enters its 'no one accountable' phase. Or more simply, arseholes.

Not sure if anyone closer to the build has heard anything, but thought I'd pass along.

Someone should Photoshop a pint next to Hugo for the lols
People using Photoshop need to exercise a certain amount of restraint to prevent spreading fake news.

Having worked with EC Harris/Arcadia, they are incompetent at best, they don’t understand the concept of money and accounting which is quite important when managing projects worth so much money.

Not a surprise it went wrong.

My company currently is working with Mace on two big projects and it’s not a surprise the stadium has gone tits up either as they aren’t the most competent either.

that's exactly what I heard, but couldn't believe it..." sabotage on the fire alarm is still a problem somewhat..." he says we will not play there this season, but i don't buy that

I think the players may have visited today. A group turned up this afternoon in 3 or 4 blacked out cars. And looked all dressed the same like training gear.

Both firms are enormous: huge, multi-office, multi-city products of successive mergers. I'm sure the branches of E C Harris/Arcadia and Mace you encountered were frustrating to deal with, but it wouldn't be realistic to extend that to the entirety of both organisations - they're too decentralised.

I've not worked directly with either, but I've dealt with post-completion issues on several developments where E C Harris acted as employer's agents. They weren't entirely wonderful to deal with, but they were OK at responding to queries when chased. I expect that if I had dealt with a different office, I would have found a differing corporate culture.
