Feel as if more and more smart analysts and football types are, almost on principle, looking to defend Poch in the last week or so. Particularly going after these idiotic arguments about whether he can be judged as a success without a trophy etc. The last few days have seen Hodgson and Jenas do so and now this terrific piece from the only good ESPN analyst: http://www.espn.com/soccer/blog/mar...r-champions-league-do-matter-more-than-fa-cup

Money quote: "Pochettino spoke the truth. The last Tottenham manager to win a trophy was Juande Ramos. Boy, that really moved the needle in the club's history, didn't it? Oh, and by the way, the old trope whereby Pochettino can't be any good because he hasn't won anything is nonsense, too. You don't judge managers who are so under-resourced, relative to the competition, based on a crapshoot like a knockout competition. You judge them on whether they out-perform their resources -- and that's before you get into the economic argument."
curious to the disagree there @Hercules --- seems to be a solid and sensible message from messers Hodgson, Jenas et al

"You know how we work at the last minute everything can happen," he said.

"A few days ago I was very optimistic about a realistic option to sign but today I am not optimistic at all.

Obvious he is talking about Rabiot.

Fucking hell .It literally is like a never ending nightmare, our recruitment. I can't believe we will be going into the remainder of the season without at least reinforcements in CM".

I’m confused. What have I said that you disagree with?
i'm confused too! You had disagreed with my post with quotes from Jenas etc. Was wondering why.
I haven't disagreed with any of your posts.
Maybe just a rating muddle

Could it not be argued that it's the in-built fear factor of yesteryear rearing it's ugly head once more.

Maybe some are so apprehensive after witnessing Spurs falter time after time when on the cusp of great achievements.

The current injury crisis allowing for the dread to reappear. I personally think we will get through this tricky period, and yes the upcoming fixtures still see us strong man v man league wise...but, no guarantees of winning any football match.

On that basis. I just try and enjoy for what it is...C'est la Vie.
Absolutely spot on with this. I often find myself feeling like I don't belong, because I disagree with those who are all doom and gloom, but on the other hand, I also disagree with those criticising (i.e. not sympathising) with those who are pessimistic, not realising why they're pessimistic.

The number of false dawns I've seen as a Spurs fan, so often linked to the manager - Gross, Santini, Hoddle, Ramos, AVB - who were all touted as the avatars of the beginning of a new age for Spurs. Ironically, it seems to be the less celebrated managers who've driven the club forward more - like BMJ or Redknapp (dare I say). The real exemplar is Pochettino himself. A relatively small name when we signed him and now considered among the best managers in the world for the way he's transformed our club.

But the crux of it is this: we are a big club and our fans have a right to expect us to be in the mix for trophies. That's not to say we have a right to a trophy or that we have a right to win anything, but that for a club our size, winning a trophy is on par with our size - winning the FA Cup (for example) would not be a surprise like it was for, say, Wigan or would be for, say, Lincoln or Sutton United.

So, we have a sense of expectation - to do well in competitions. The progress the club has made instils a sense of anticipation - being on the cusp of bigger things. And then you add to that already potent cocktail, the disappointments we've experienced so often - the unsuccessful managers, the players who turn into stars and then leave, Mix that all together and you will have heightened emotions.

And, all the while, we have to remember that football itself is an emotive thing. We follow football emotively, not rationally. There is no rational reason for any of us to support Spurs above any other club. We do so for a reason but none of them are rational ones - they are all emotive.

Now, I'd be the first to say that applying reason to an emotive situation is a very wise course of action. But that's a decision a person has to make for themselves and if they don't, saying that they're foolish for not doing so isn't going to make them more likely to...

I like the way you closed the quote after the last sentence making it look like Poch accidentally let slip his true thoughts at his press conference

I don't know why you expected any different, all the noise the club has been making have hinted that we won't be bringing anyone in.

I am beginning to be confused by what Poch may be trying to do. I like his philosophy, and his honesty, however is he aiming to high, in the first instance, with his transfer preferences? Will those highly talented wanted players create an inbalance in the team? In my opinion I think he needs to be very selective in the short term as to the high quality he wants to bring in.

From Poch's press conference. He is attempting to make very clear what the club sees as the Project. And as a bonus, "I am going to stick with the club until the end to help the club achieve all they want. "

https://www.football.london/tottenh...lts/pochettino-ill-stick-spurs-until-15748067

"Of course, when we talk and always with all respect because I always talk the same. Ok I'm going to use a different example from a different country. If you are at Real Madrid, you only think about winning trophies, there is not another point. In Tottenham when we arrive here four years and a half ago it was a completely different challenge for the club.
To build that quality or philosophy is tough. If you want Tottenham one day be at the same level of Real Madrid but, that is the most important thing, the bigger picture is we are going to have amazing stadium, one of the best stadiums in the world.
If you want to be one of the best teams in the world you need to have one of the best stadiums in the world. If you want to be one of the best teams in the world, you have to have the best facilities, one of the best training grounds in the world. We have that. You need to make that unbelievable effort to build all that. Then in the moment that you have all that ready that is not going to be an excuse afterwards, only we need to be focused to try to win titles."

He talked about so much more, but this is the first thing people talk about.

Fuck a duck :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Yep. The rest of the press conference is brilliant from him. I think we can safely say he’s going nowhere this summer. He reiterates the conditions he’s been working under, which for some reason he needs to remind people.

Glad he doesn’t read social media though else he may well be thinking of packing his bags

He'd split his sides reading this one!
