Shelf is 2 tiers in the East stand

WAS

FOJ has a point. Yes it's a little bit of poetic license and writing new history but our iconic part of the ground WAS 'The Shelf'

This area has quite clearly been removed from the NWHL and I would imagine 80% of the old shelf supporters?? have relocated to the park lane

We could call it the new shelf side....

Arsenal went 6 months unbeaten when they moved to the Emirates, but first two results were draws against Villa & Middlesbrough.
Can we afford to risk that sort of bedding in with only 5 home games??

I think we can risk it. I'd actually be more worried about moving at the start of a season when players are still getting up to speed than moving mid-way through a season when we've got players who know each others games inside out.

Is that a fact that the new East Stand is called the Shelf? If so fair enough. But if not it is a a name linked to Spurs and it would be a shame to lose it. After all the so called kop or wall stand doesnt align with their names either.

I think I'm right in saying it's technically the corner end between South and East. We can't really call it the shelf though can we?
We're the shelf side, we're the shelf side, we're the shelf side Tot-ten-ham
We're the shelf side, we're the shelf side, we're the shelf side Tot-ten-ham

Why not? It is one side of 4

Re the ticket refunds, given that the club has been charging by the category, the club should be refunding by the category too. Being refunded £52 but then asked to pay £70 is pretty shit, especially if it falls in a tight month financially, which most of us tend to have from time to time.

Re when we move in, sooner the better. I’m going to Wembley still, but it’s not much fun watching with no atmosphere, it feels like a friendly or something most of the time, and I’m sure that affects the team.

There’s only 2 reasons for these monthly updates and not just declaring next season.
1. They truly believe we will play a game before end of season.

2. Levy has had a very handy £80m interest free loan that he has been able to drip feed repayments rather than refund people in full.

Make your own minds up but I know which is the more likely as time is showing.

I can't understand the logic of people saying they're fed-up with the delays and then volunteering to delay the opening until next season.

So you want to do away with Park Lane?

I think it might be more about losing 'The Shelf'

Keeping the shelf where it is with the types of supporters who will be sitting there will, i think, be sad

Most have relocated because of the safe standing etc. Our new single tier stand will be iconic, why not move the previous icon area to the new iconic area

Historically the atmosphere was generated from the shelf. Now the atmosphere will be generated by those in the new South Stand

This update is totally expected, given the uncertainty of when the Palace and Brighton games might be played.

The reaction to the update really just feels like people are just getting angry for the sake of it this time. From the information in this thread - and indeed anywhere online - the Arsenal game was never going to open the new stadium, so I'm surprised it appears there still existed people out there who were holding out hope for that match.

Also, while the update doesn't tell us much new, it does tell us that we are now in the final stages of testing the fire safety systems, which is significant and shows we are much closer. The club could have waited longer for this stage to pass, but then they would have been criticised for a lack of communication so they can't really win here.

Anyway, the positive thing for me is that the announcement tallies with the insider info we have got this past week. If this next few days goes well it sounds like we'll be able to get the test events planned, and the certificate will follow shortly after.

Let's just hope that Palace and/or Brighton get knocked out next weekend so we can get the official opening match locked in.

All things that are new to the opponent too. Besides this is still home so the area is very much familiar anyway. I'd also say the new stadium has a familiar feel to it. At the end of the day home is home and the players will feel at home from day one. Not to mention they've already been to the new stadium and will no doubt practice on the new pitch before they move in. I think there's for more positives to moving in now than negative.
You say that but the new signings we had last summer & this January have never played at WHL, oh wait a minute.....:cautious:

I don’t know the logistics but I’d presume if palace or Brighton is rearranged to an evening game it rules them out. So in reality it just leaves Huddersfield. Would they really want to open it against Huddersfield, maybe I guess. But West Ham is definitely a NO and pretty pointless/embarrassing doing Everton last game. Although I guess Everton would still have its uses as in ST sales for next season and just breaking the ice before next season. But personally I think Brighton on the Saturday is the cut off.

Intentionally postponing the opening to next season just leaves us open to several months of media speculation (nonsense) about whether it'll be ready in time for the first home match. I'd rather get in there even if it really was for just the last home game of this season, simply to put that question to bed.

I think the fanfare of the day will overshadow whomever is on the pitch. I'd almost it be someone like Brighton or Huddersfield. Then hopefully we can return shortly thereafter to smash West Ham in a real football stadium.

How historically are you going? I've been going over fifty years and it's alway been the Park Lane in that time. With a little help from our friends in the shelf of course.
Personally I still think we should call it the white wall then we could be the white wallkers!(y)

If you think it will be better to wait until next season to open NWHL, consider this. There is an outside chance that we will win the league this season. Would you want us to be presented with the trophy at Wembley or at our new home?

Thought so.

Winning the league over Liverpool, at NWHL, and against Everton. First, it would be beyond surreal. Two, Everton may just applaud for 90 minutes instead of playing if it means keeping Liverpool from the title.

Really?

There was only one place I wanted to be for the UEFA Cup Final in 84 and it certainly wasn’t the Park Lane!!!

The earliest I can remember properly from is about 1974 when I sat with my dad who had 2 ST in the West Stand. All I remember back then was watching and listening to The Shelf and wishing I was old enough to be in there......
