I'd prefer us to sign a left-footed CB as a long term replacement for Vertonghen should Toby leave, with Sanchez/Foyth taking up that RCB role.

Not many good ones out there unfortunately. The top ones are already at huge clubs. The one that sticks out is Mario Hermoso at Espanyol. I read somewhere that Real Madrid have a 7mil buy back clause on him or something. Would be nice if they did us a solid should we sell them Eriksen.

Yeah, left-footers come at a premium, but there are options.

Hermoso looks quality. Not that big physically, but his long passing is Toby-esque. Can imagine RM will resign him as backup or for profit.

Kik Pierie at Heerenveen looks a promising talent, as does Lloyd Kelly at Bristol City. The latter has been playing mostly at LB for the Championship side, but I think he’ll end up being a CB. He’s 6’1, quick, classy on the ball, and importantly, considered homegrown.

Another homegrown option could be Nathan Ake. Bournemouth would demand a small fortune for him, as they would David Brooks too.

Frankfurt’s teenage, 6’3 defender, Evan N’Dicka, has been an ever-present for the German side this season. And Malang Sarr at Nice looks promising.

Tuchel is loved by the fans and owners of PSG so he’s going nowhere. Similarly, Bayern have a new man coming in next season.

Stop reading everything so literally ffs

The more highlights of matches and compilations I watch of Pablo Fornals the more I think he would be perfect for us. He also has a €25-30mill release clause apparently.

Decent pace, hard working, silky with the ball like Dembele, very good vision and passing. Pair him up with a destroyer like Diawara and we could have a new midfield to be proud of.

If we cant get Ndombele or Rabiot then I would go all out for Fornals.

I like Fornals. However, I don't think he'd suit a 4-2-3-1. I'm not sure he has the defensive discipline to play as one of the midfield two, nor the goal-threat to play in the attacking trio behind the striker.

But if we adopt a 4-3-3 next year, he has that defensive/offensive balance and work rate to excel in a midfield.

Julian Brandt, who also reportedly has a low release clause, has been superb playing as a no.8 in such a formation for Leverkusen this season, alongside the wunderkind, Kai Havertz. Another Bundesliga no.8 to keep an eye on is Maximillian Eggestein of Werder Bremen.

That's because JJ's profile is private, you can only see his tweets if he's allowed you to follow him.

Luckily I started following him a long time ago and got a follow back so I'm fully in the club :smug:
Ah, I don't have a Twitter account either, so that probably doesn't help.

Ah, the old chestnut about not having CL affecting sighings. Does anyone really believe that?

We’ve had it three years and barely attracted any coups in the transfer market, whilst Arsenal and Chelsea having attracted - Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pulisic, Kovacic, Higuain without CL.

Players obviously want to play in the CL but in the end money talks and is what gets deals done.

You are able to attract better players if you have guaranteed champions league is what i meant.
Whether or not we decide to pay the sufficient is a different conversation.

“Eriksen can be replaced” is fair to say, but also utterly delusional and definitely reflective of the club’s arrogant, mislead belief.

Thinking like that has led to us going through an injury crisis this year, with no adequate stand-ins. We’ve had no plan B for when Eriksen isn’t firing, or when Son can’t miraculously bag us an undeserved goal. We have been shit for a few months, Dortmund aside, and we’ve thrown away a massive gap on those outside the top 4. If we don’t get champions league this year, it’s because we’re run by arrogant twats whose transfer ideology holds no bearing on reality.

New stadium looks cool though. Shame our first European game there next year will probably be a Europa League qualifier
I don't understand why you are saying that the club are arrogant over Eriksen. We have had great offers on the table for 2 years for him and he hasn't signed (yes he's lost money)them as he wants to fulfill his football ambition and try to play for Real Madrid. How is that arrogant?
Is he world class on his day - yes
Does he hit those high standards nearly every game- no
Can that be replaced - yes

It's like how we thought we could just replace Walker. Now Toby and Eriksen. Those are some of the best players in the world at their positions and are so hard to replace. Look at replacing Bale... Eriksen was basically all we got out of that. And with the clubs recent transfer activity it's hard to be optimistic on how it will turn out. I think most would agree we haven't had a great summer window since 15/16.

It feels like we're starting over a bit after not adding the right pieces for the final push with what felt like a "golden generation" for Spurs.

Eriksen is world class on his day, there is no denying that. But we do not have to replace him in our squad, that would be nigh on impossible anyway. What we need to do is adapt to playing without him. Let's hope Poch and Levy have been working on a plan.

It's hard to see us doing anything but going backwards on the football side over the next couple of seasons. Gutting to think that the last few years are likely to end up being the best we have been or will be again for some time, and we've won jack shit during that period.

As I said in another thread, I am entirely unconvinced that any financial benefits that the new stadium brings us will translate to us being able to put out a better football team in future than the one we have right now, so in the short-to-medium term I see very little to be optimistic about with the club right now.

I don’t understand what you don’t understand. If we sell Eriksen, in this market we would have to pay £80m+ to adequately replace him and then the wages that go with it - and will we do that? No. We couldn’t even sign Grealish when Villa were faced with the threat of extinction.

It’s arrogant because the club think they can sell a world class player (which he is, regardless of sugarcoating it any other way like we did with Walker) and replace him easily. Players of his ilk don’t want to play for us. Our only hope is to sign a young guy with potential to maybe end up fulfilling Eriksen’s duties.

Or we’ll just play Dele there and sign a winger. Can’t wait to go back to having limited craft and guile in midfield. Even when Eriksen isn’t firing - he still creates chances and sometimes pops up with a worldie.

This is key.

Liverpool managed when Suarez and then Coutinho Left, two players that were key to the way they were playing.

They are arguably in a better position now than they were before these sales. Obviously our position financially and in the market is different, but they signed players that we arguably could've attained too. I know we missed a few too them, but that besides the point. The point is we do not have to run out and spend vast sums of money to make up for Eriksen's loss.

It's very optimistic, but I hope with losing Eriksen we can have the same shift and be better off in the long run. No disrespect to Eriksen or what he has done for our club, but its our only way forward without him.

That's the way you have to look at it. Trying to scout Europe for a like-for-like attacking midfielder will end in failure. Either we identify someone we can't get or we will get an inferior player. I would try to move the playmaking back to the CMs and try to improve the fullbacks to widen the play.
