So if I get you both right what you are saying is that absent injury it doesn’t matter how badly Hugo plays you don’t trust Gazza to replace him ? I could understand that if we had never seen Gazza play or if he had played badly when called upon but I think it is really strange to take that view given how well he has played when in the team.

I suppose a better way to put it is I trust Poch's decisions over the prevailing group think at any particular time. Im not having a go at anyone but we'd have sold just about every player on the squad for a run of bad form at one time or another if the mood here dictated Club policy.

Heaton for me

Probably me too, but my thought was based upon who I think we could most likely actually sign.

Heaton is already a PL player at a PL club, so is he likely to want to leave his starting birth at his current club to fight for one at ours?

Butland, on the other hand, has gone from practically being England number one & one of the most talked about young 'keepers in the game, to being a forgotten man in the Championship. So I think he'd jump at the chance of coming here to fight his way back to the top of his game.

Onions.

On Wednesday night they should play this when Hugo comes on the pitch. They played it years ago at half time in Anfield when Leeds keeper Gary Sprake threw the ball into his own net....

What a season its been Hugo, numerous mistakes in big games & the whole drink driving fiasco, staggering how these two things combined haven't affected his position on the pitch, yes he has kept us in games but this sends totally the wrong message to someone like Paulo who is fighting for a spot in the team & has been largely impressive

I love Poch but I think he has some blind spots, being overly loyal to certain players being one. It maybe an overly simplistic analysis but I think his loyalty to Lloris, Vorm and Trippier has cost us double digit points this season and I’m not really sure what the upside of that loyalty is none of them look like coming out of their respective ruts any time soon.

To be fair Vorm was ousted quite soon after his Liverpool mistake and overtaken by Gazza

I've always thought he was a good keeper but also that we could still improve on him. He hasn't progressed enough and I'm quite frankly fed up of his howlers in big games. He's especially taking the piss this season.

Give Gazzaniga a run of games and Hugo can go off and celebrate his World Cup win (which to me seems to be where his head is at these days).

Gazzaniga is nowhere near Lloris' level. It’s a shame but it’s true.

Hugo has some odd issue at the moment but any changes should happen in the summer.

Lets stop the bullshit....it was not bad luck ,it was Hugos fault and stop digging, your starting to sound really stupid mate.

I'm not digging anything, but I'm sure that play must have looked super easy to make from your comfy arm chair though. Wonder why you're not out there earning millions for playing the goalkeeper position though.

I knew that the Kop at Anfield went into a spontaneous rendition of "Careless Hands" when Sprake threw it into the net, as that's where it happened. Not sure why they'd play it at Elland Road after the event.

FYI I don't have to be Gordon Ramsey to know when i've had a bad meal, i don't have to be De Niro to turn off a shit film.

Get over yourself , even Hugo knows it was a fucking howler......lets move on , get behind the boys tomorrow and for the rest of the season so we can achieve our targets.

So us fans shouldn't have an opinion? If it was a rare error there wouldn't be the reaction.
The problem is it was almost predictable. He's been a fantastic loyal servant and great goalkeeper for us. But he is costing us points. We aren't a middle of the road club finishing mid table anymore. We're supposed to be pushing to win the league or very minimum finish top 4. The points we've dropped due to his fucks ups (not including his champs lge fuck ups) is enough now.
Again, he's been a great player for us. But we either need to try Gazzaniga as our number 1 or invest in a new keeper.

by that logic no fan should have any opinion on any footballer, no one is claiming they would have saved it, but its not out of order to suggest and hope a big club with top 4 aspirations in the biggest league in the world like ours goalkeeper and captain should save such a tame shot

Bar the odd game, Hugo has had an absolute shocker of a season on the pitch and behind the scenes but then he's not the only one to have had numerous 'Kyle Walker' moments.

Everyone in our defensive unit, bar Jan, has had schoolboy moments, and almost every error has been punished while other teams in the top 6 are getting away with their ones.

The thing I don't get is that our players are experienced enough now to not only know better but also how to pick themselves and each other up. And yet the bloopers have become contagious.

Not helped, of course, by our forward line suddenly being flat and misfiring despite being back up to full strength.

Not sure if it's the stadium distraction, not sure if it's the CL, not sure if it's uncertainty about a couple of players' futures but whatever it is the players need to get a grip fast and get back to their best.

I disagree that his passing accuracy is "good". Statistically, if he plays a shocking pass to Sanchez who's under pressure and he subsequently gives it away in a hasty clearance or bad pass, then Hugo gets credited for a completed pass, but we're in the shits. And that happens often.

Hugo is someone who is at his best when he has a lot to do. He almost gets warm. Dortmund away is a good example. When he has little to do in a half, like at Anfield in that 2nd half, then the worst in him comes out.

I do think we can improve on Hugo. He's made many errors over the past two seasons that have led to goals. He's also had the odd show-stopping performance, but I think the errors now outweigh those good performances.

I wouldn't drop him for Gazza, especially for the first game at the new WHL. That would be a dreadful thing to do to our club captain and could lead to Poch losing the dressing room.

The summer would be a more appropriate time to consider his place in the team, not now.
