It now seems Poch’s complaints about time between weekend fixtures and tonight wasn’t because of worries about the players fitness it was him preparing for the game. There only seemed to be one team who looked prepared for the game and to counter a team’s threats and where to attack and it wasn’t us.

Can all those moaning about the performance, which was poor for the first 30min granted, just stop a minute and imagine Liverpool for example in a semi final of cl against Ajax. It doesnt have to be Ajax it could be anyone, whoever it is they are good enough to reach a cl semi final so not a shower of shit.
Now imagine they have Salah and Mane out of the team. Then take out their best attacking midfielder (Sissoko). Halfway into 1st half VvD or Lovren go off injured.
Do you think they'd still look good and play just as well, creating chance after chance like they normally do?
No, I dont fuckin think so either.
We are better than Ajax. And with a few key players back they'll find us a very different proposition in the 2nd leg having to mark Son instead of Llorente.
We can do this.
We WILL do this.
COYS.
You're pissing in the wind mate.

Just got back, so here's my take

  1. they had a 25-30 min spell in which they killed us. Great side
  2. that all changed when Sissoko came on
  3. I have never in my life been more wrong about a player than I have about sisoko
  4. There has to be an upgrade for Trips out there somewhere, and we're not even talking big money for it to be an upgrade
  5. I said to my son on the way to the game, given our injuries we need an 8 or 9 out 10 performance from Dele and Eriksen. We got 4 or 5 at best
  6. If we had Kane, Son, and winks playing, its a different game
  7. THIS IS NOT OVER YET
  8. COYS !!
PS - i am not an expert on concussion other than having suffered from it (twice). The first time the effect didn't kick in for 30 mins or so after (bike accident) when I threw up and fell over (!!). Still, questions need to be asked about why he was allowed back on.
I like a lot of this post, Dov, but I can't give it a like rating because of the concussion thing. That sounds like it was awful!

He consistently gets it wrong because he overrates many of the players. He is too close to them, too paternal. There is evidence there if you want to compile it that Poch may not be the best judge of a player. And I don't know the relative weight of his choices being financial vs quality so I'm somewhat blind here just using the end products. But he didn't rate Dembele at CM hence he played RW/AM for 1.25 years. Sissoko, who was always a MF and made his name in a CM2 at Toulouse, RMF at NUFC and France was played at RW but now we are nothing without him at CM. Plus his persistence with players without the actual physical tools to compete in this league/his tactics, Janssen, Tripps, to some extent Davies, etc.

This is exactly why we need a DOF and exactly why he should not have been allowed to take on that position. No manager can do both those jobs. A DOF need not be 'above' a manager but someone needs to be tasked with the hard player personnel choices that we have neglected for the last few years. But also, someone needs to sit Poch down and say you want a small squad but it has bitten us in the ass on more than 1 occasion. And also evaluate his goldilocks-porridge approach to players. IDK what was on his mind there was a quality MF or 2 available on loan in the summer and in Jan (Gomes and Tielemanns respectively) and we were fucking light there so you take the loan. We needed bodies and it is even better that those bodies would have been actual fucking footballers.

I agree but you’ll get shot down for it, I have for saying similar in the past. I don’t want him anywhere near transfers. Sure let him have a say but he has too much control.

Buzzing for the next two games! 4-0 up against Bournemouth after 60 then rest some players, then win 1-3 on Wednesday! What a week it’s going to be!

I love you man or woman or non binary whatever... I love you

Not where I was standing. Waiting on the team to lift them as usual. I would rather have a 10k ground all singing rather than a 17k wall of whisperers

It was the loudest it’s been in the ground this season in the first half. Amazing considering it seemed we in the crowd were the only ones wanting us to win in the stadium. The players sure weren’t acting like it.

3 centre backs clearly didn’t work and Poch admits his mistake. But I certainly won’t criticise him. Just looking at our bench and the stark lack of investment in the team for the past 2 windows shows where the blame lies. Sissoko on the bench was desperation as there were no other options available; hope he doesn’t have a recurrence of the injury.

Too Many injuries/suspensions meant we had a make shift team, if we are honest this scoreline is not a shock. Now everyone is waxing lyrical about Ajax and jumping on the hype train is great for us. It’s putting this young team of underdogs as favourites.

An early goal for us in the second leg is going to put them under massive pressure. Away goal wiped out and then we can go for the kill. They are a good team but I really feel this will play into our hands. We have to go there to win, we are now underdogs, we will be a completely different team. Tonight wasn’t the biggest game of the season so far, next Wednesday is.

Dele and Eriksen hugely disappointing tonight such half hearted performances from them. It's not over yet will be tough but we can get a result over there if we're at it.

I haven’t read any of the natch thread but here’s my take. They will be thinking they’re nearly there for the next few days then the realisation of being hot favourites will hit home and they’ll feel pressure that they haven’t felt . Add to the fact that they’re no great side. I think we’ll be alright , pretty confident that we’ll win out there with Son back and the pressure being off. Plus I think we’ll be angry ( in a good way) and I can see us winning 1-3, even though 1-2 will be enough. Genuinely confident.

I went. I was seriously annoyed. I came home. Still annoyed. Crowd did there bit. Players didn’t. Ajax made us look like a league 1 side. Trippier got the bulk of my wrath. Not good enough. Foyth Beat more players in the 10 minutes he was on than trippier did all night. Seriously frustrated. But it’s only half time. Thank god.

Agree - but we was after the Ajax boy who’s going Barca - an offer was made as he has said so himself. Grealish was 2nd choice but Levy dicking about with ridiculous bids cost us - £25m was fair and he should have got that deal over line, Boy would have been great for us imo

I think we were the much more dominant team once sissoko came on. We had them on the ropes on midfield but we were totally shocking going forwards. Ud like to think that eriksen alli and moura could do better that that.
I think we are well in this. Get son and winks back in and go toe to toe with the feckers.....son will kill em.
