A little heads up. The market is ridiculous and crazy, with near zero morals and ethics. We get a very clear idea on a price of a player from agents, mandates, selling club etc. We actually bid what ‘they’ have suggested. We already agree all with player’s agents.

Say for example 50m (just example). It gets out there, and they put it about (selling club), and say they want more, we go back in at 60m. We think we have a deal. One of the agents we work through gets word to us that they are inviting bids 20m more than ours. They make known out bid. Nobody bites. We begin to talk to other payers through their agents, as we think we are getting played. The player now starts wanting answers, and we get blamed. It is now DL’s fault.

Poch is fully aware of this and supports his chairman, who really wants to get deals done early. Conclusion to this, we are very confident on acquiring our main targets. And we will not be spending silly money on AWB.
cheers Buddy...much appreciated

Good to see we are getting our excuses in nice and early this year. The market is what it is, there's no point complaining about it, like every other club we either accept the new reality or we don't (and like every other club we have a bucket load more TV money to soften the blow). Still hopeful of a brave new dawn and clearly early days but this transfer window is already starting to have an unwelcome air of familiarity about it.

If this is based off of Herc's post just now, he literally says we're "very confident" of securing our top targets. I'm as pessimistic as anyone else on here based on the last few transfer windows, but your statement is completely at odds with what we're being told.

Whether we do actually come to sign our targets or not remains to be seen, but let's wait and see before we get the pitchforks out.

This aimed at the club not Herc but we were confident last year that deals would get done... means nothing in this business it appears.

We are an English club, in the top 10 of richest clubs in the world in terms of turnover and value. We will therefore NEVER get quoted normal prices. EVERY club will try to rip us off. After years of mad spending by English clubs, these are now the realities of life. The fact that we never took part in the past will not help us one bit, we are tainted by association.
Selling clubs know we need to bring in fresh blood after years of under-investment and transfer market ineptitude. We have little market leverage and therefore we will not find a bargain anywhere.

We must, IMO, face facts: Paying up is the only way forward...

Appreciate the info. The market is crazy every year, we either want to push on or we don't. The prices are never going to be fair or to our liking in the same way that van dijk or allison were over priced.

This is what Liverpool identified and acted on last year. It may have seemed rash at the time but the results are there for everyone to see.

Thanks for the info Herc.

If a Aulas or López Catalán whored about for £80 million after we’ve bid £60m in good faith there is nothing to stop him trying to do the same if we bid £80m and them trying for 90-100m.

As long as Poch and Levy are singing from the same hymn sheet I’m happy.

Hmm thanks for the info Herc. I hope common sense prevails in the end and everyone agrees on a deal soon. I do believe we are pushing hard to close the likes of Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon early as there is so much smoke in the media.

Bit of a shame about AWB though as I think he'd be perfect, and we seem to be lacking in strong links to RBs.

You would honestly think we knew how the market operates by now?

In any industry you play various games before sealing a big deal.

I guess we can’t control how other clubs and agents go about their business - but it shouldn’t be a surprise to us.

We need a strategy to operate in this market. Do we have the right team of people to achieve this?

All big businesses have a bid management team. I assume we have something similar? All the blame seems to fall at Levy’s feet, but I would be surprised if he is a one man band leading all the negotiations.

It's completely at odds with the bit that you've quoted and we have been very confident with players before (De Jong last summer being just one example) until someone else comes in and pays the asking price, or close to, while we are buggering about moaning about goalposts being moved. The reason this post makes me pessimistic is that whenever (and I am going back many, many years) we start to hear about agents messing us about, goalposts being moved etc etc it rarely ends well. As I said, I am still hopeful that this summer is different but I am starting to see some worryingly familiar signs, that's all I'm saying.

That's a fair point, and I appreciate where you're coming from. We've been burnt many times before, so I understand you're line of thinking. I choose to believe it's different this time, but what that's based on I do not know.

Liverpool did also buckle with the Fekir transfer. They also don't have a whole stadium to pay off and are currently c£250m in debt to their owners for their transfer goings on that does need paying back to Henry.

They took a chance, it paid off for them well done but they did loan money from their owners that led to them breaking two transfer records in goalkeeping and defensive positions. Us on the other hand have had to sign a long term Nike deal to appease our bank loan sources. We have aidfferent model to Liverpool, a hugely different fan base and history. There is less risk for Liverpool doing so than we have with all things considered. Historically we are closer to Everton's level than Liverpools, we should be compared against that moreso as a benchmark of our growth and success for the time being until we grow our global brand and identity. That stadium makes us massive, we just need to be patient and play the game

I wasn't sure whether to rate this Like or Optimistic. I went with Like because I hope you're right!

So Levy and the club have only just realised the market is brutal with no morals?! ? excuses excuses.

This seems familiar. Last season we started of all positive, then apparently our main targets were proving elusive for all various reasons, and eventually it was either back up targets or nothing.

Liverpool didn’t seem to find it difficult to do deals in 2018. Chelsea managed to sign Pulisic in January. But for Spurs it seems signing top players is beyond us. I wonder why...

It’s really quite black and white. Levy either delivers the players that the fans and Poch want and expect, or he doesn’t. I think we don’t want to hear excuses anymore. If he doesn’t, yet again, you’d have to say Levy has taken us as far as he can. Time to shit or get off the pot and let someone else take us on to become credible title challengers with the investment in the squad to back it up.

Let’s all hope this time it’s different, for once.

Players the fans expect!!!! With the greatest of respect I understand players Poch expects but if he is listening to the fans we are doomed...we couldn't find a consensus about a player in a box called consensus's about players smack bang the middle of consensus land! We argue about the merits of the ones we have got let alone all the others in the World....youd probably find some here that would be pissed off if we signed Messi as he is too one footed!

If I like your posts etc, it is not endorsement from me everyone!!!

Just that I like what you said ?

Well, now i have to say the moment is ruined. My first "like" by an ITK guy. It reminds me of that day and high school where the prom queen gave a kiss and said, "you're cute" instead of saying "you're hot".

In all seriousness, your efforts and all of the efforts by the ITKers is greatly valued. Knowing that you are doing it to help us understand what's happening behind the curtain (and not to promote your brand, website, etc) makes it that much more appreciated.

The ITK do sound generally optimistic though I have to say. Would make a huge difference to just get one deal over the line though with such fresh memories of last year.
