After undergoing assessment over the past few days, we can confirm that Juan Foyth has sustained a lateral ligament injury to his left ankle following a challenge in our Audi Cup match against Bayern Munich.

Can't say I'm surprised really having sold Trippier and with Aurier and Dier injured. Wonder how long into the Villa game before KWP picks up a knock?

I just don’t know how the club expect us to compete for honours with their transfer policy. A replacement for Trippier should have been ready as soon as we sold him.

Seems we're trying to shoe-horn Foyth into a position he's not best suited to. I understand that he needs game time or he'll want away but it doesn't seem to be with the best interests of the team to be doing this. RB, IMO, was an absolute must to strengthen this window but instead we're using a player who was obviously not deemed as good as the one we just flogged.

We was always going to miss the first few matches anyway so not much change there

Happy to see kwp given a chance with a run in the team and not just occasional matches here and there

How many right backs do we need?

Agree. We have right backs in KWP and Aurier. We also have Foyth as cover. That is enough numbers. Quality is another matter mind but we do not need another RB unless we think our 2 are not good enough.

The question should be, “How many decent right backs do we need?” The answer is two. Aurier isn’t good enough and KWP has potential, but right now, he’s a rookie. We’re supposed to be a top four club now, but we’re not being careful enough to maintain the quality.

How many decent RB's who are currently on the market will be a guaranteed success is the other question you should ask.

People seem to have short memories, we bought a player who was meant to be a decent RB 2 years ago and look what's happened...

Spending money isn't always the solution...

Don't disagree. I do my assessment of new incoming players in the only way I can 'best bits' youtube videos. From those I came to the quick conclusion Aurier was extremely reckless given the number of times he slid in uncontrolled - you just can't do that in modern football. So £20m for him was a bad deal as far as I was concerned, so far that's proved pretty much right.

I was impressed with KWP's tecnhique and control in the 2nd half vs Inter. The problem is that he's really poor defensively and will be targetted by other teams.

Not impressed with any of our 3 RB's last season and Foyth the 4th option who I think is the best option takes far too many risks on the ball and makes too many rash challenges

It is one of our biggest weak spots but surely we need to shift a couple to replace.

On this occasion we definitely do have to spend money, cause we've got no quality, reliable right backs in the squad. People always say, "Who is actually out there that is good enough and available?" Well I don't know, mostly because I'm not a scout or a well connected coach. But I'm sure that there are dozens of right backs in the world that we could afford and would be better than what we've already got.

I'm gonna leave this one out there...the last right back we scouted and signed was Aurier, he was supposedly good enough.

Supposedly good enough – yes
Actually good enough – nah

Well yes we weren't aware of that at the time hence the need to tread with caution.

My point all along has been about guarantees, no one can guarantee that any player we buy will succeed which is why I bought up Aurier.

As the last thing I’ll say about it (for now), better to get enough players in the right positions, than risk playing in four competitions without enough cover. How far do you think we’d get in all four competitions with only one recognised (rookie) right back?! It’s not your personal cash, so why should you care if the club spend a bit of it?! We are in a position now where we have to have enough players to properly compete, otherwise we’ll drop out of the top four. Anyway, nuff said.
