Arnesen is.Is Pleaty still available?
I don’t think it’s a case of Levy scouting him. The club will have a scouting team and young players will be bought.
The head coach won’t have full control of young players being bought.
It seems to me that when Pleat, Arnesen, Comolli and Baldini were running the show they were given the budget and left to get on with it. That's just my perception though. He sounds like someone worth going for. Do you reckon that he would be given carte blanche to do what he needs to do? Obviously DL will always make the final decisions and that is his prerogative but I guess that any director of football would need to have a certain amount of freedom to get on with the job without too much interference.
No, he dosen't seems to think he's both. He wanted to hire a director but Poch said no.
?
We've only not had one under managers who have explicitly refused to work under one (H and Poche).
Part of the reason I begrudgingly accepted that Poch had to go was him and Levy clearly had different visions of Poch’s role in the club. Was not Poch supposed to be a manager?
Think Poch did not like that part of not being in control of which player we bought, thats when he told the press he was only a coach .
Poch likes to be in control I think
Must've been if not mentioned in one of the many lengthy newspaper interviews he did during his time with us.Was this ITK?? Because I can't seem to find anything that suggests Poch refused to work with a DoF and the info regarding his meeting with UTD seems to suggest he wants one there?
Really hope not. We’re desperate for an appointment like this. Levy doesn’t have the vision when it comes to purchasing players. He’s a chairman ffs not a scout but clearly seems to think he’s both. It hasn’t worked!
Pleat also scouted Dele and I think Clarke was an attempt to return to that model despite Poch. Poch was many things, but I tend to think he won't become a true great like Pep and Klopp until he accepts the structure those two thrive under.

I don’t see why that is an issue. A chairman would be insane to give a sporting director the company chequebook.Question is I suppose is there any point in having a sporting director of he doesn't control the finances. And I don't believe for one second Levy will give him the company cheque book.

Having a simple understanding and agreement of what can afford and open discussion between the sporting director and board seems pretty standard.
Which is what I said.Doesn't need a blank chequebook, just give him a budget and anything they make from sales

Arnesen is.
A few years back there was quite a song and dance made when Poch signed a new deal that his job title had been changed to Manager. This reflected that he'd taken on additional responsibilities and greater say in the running of all aspects of the footballing side of things (you'd assume he pushed for that). But that was when things were going well, hit a bad patch, and struggle to identify and get in players, and he quickly went back to claiming he was just a coach etc.

Problem is DL wouldn’t give up the F’ng steam off his own piss.Would it not be a case of the DoF being given a budget for transfers and a budget for wages and be required to stay within that or negotiate for more in exceptional circumstances? IMO though, Levy enjoys being in the thick of it and wouldn't give it up easily.
He wanted to have responsibilities whilst taking none. I think the biggest issue with having a manager for 5+ years is that you start to see through what they are saying more, and what sounded good at the start wore a bit thin at the end.
