The papers like always are filling their headlines with whatever they think will sell without getting sued for their lies by going too far and as we are big spenders with a new manager we obviously being linked with a lot of players ready to come in January. Most of the top clubs don't buy in the transfer market but we seem to usually pick up at least one player and the random figure the papers have picked up is we have £40 million to spend.

Basically Ramos will have two months with the squad and i'm sure he'll find a few players not pulling their weight and he'll have time to identify what areas we lack in. Despite the papers linking Berbatov with a move away I can't see this happening in January and i don't think a striker is what we need, stating the obvious i know.

If King comes back to full fitness we may not need a central defender as badly as we think although an experienced centre back to compete with Dawson, King and Kaboul would be a good idea if Ramos doesn't rate Rocha (haven't seen enough of him to write him off yet. With Bale, Lennon, Malbranque and Routledge we appear to have a few options on the wings too.

Maybe Ramos will be able to organise the likes of Zokora, Tainio, Huddlestone and Jenas into a workable unit and get the best out of them.

I'm not a fan of panic buying and believe we do have a strong squad with a lot of quality. If we can make one postive signing in January whether it's a CB or CM i'll be happy.

But does anyone think there'll be a lot of signings or will the coach just concentrate on what he already has?

It depends. It depends on how well we do in the next six weeks until the transfer window opens.

I dont think he will make major changes, I can see a left footed left winger coming in because we simply dont have one, its a no brainer really.

I can also see us getting in a centre back because of all the injuries (if we do bring one in it will mean Ledders is really done for)

Then I think Ramos might bring in a central midfielder, perhaps, if the right one becomes available, but you could say that about any of the positions really.

As for outs, I can some of the squad players going. Ghaly will hopefully long gone, I dont think Routledge will get a chance, some of the older reserve team members maybe loaned out/moved on. Gardner/Rocha might go.

But relative to other teams I dont think it will be a major window for us. I think Ramos will either write the league off because the next six weeks will see us slip out of contention for 6th place, or he will keep the squad we have because we have done so well to get back into contention for that 6th place.

Either way, I think he will wait until the summer to spend really big.

I think we have the exact same issues we had in the summer. We still need a LW, CM (or two) and a CB. Seeing as we didn't get them in the summer I can't see any reason as to why we'd get them in Jan. If the quality of player we wanted then wasn't available (or we wouldn't pay the fee/wages), I see even less chance of them being so in Jan. We'll probably have to wait until the summer to do the bulk of our shopping. In Jan clubs are naturally reluctant to release quality players. I can't remember us doing much good shopping in the Jan window before. I'm probably missing someone really obvious, but other then Defoe in 2004, have we bought any real quality players in the Jan window?

I know there by might be little chance, i would like Zokora to leave i know DC rates hime highly but i feel hes never really looked good in any games and am losing patience with him. if we could sell him for 4-5 million then buy a central midfielder for around 7-8 million ie poulsen then this should be done. Hopefully we will bring in capel and Jarque. capel has plenty of potential and Jarque is an all round good center back

We bought Dawson and Reid on Jan 31st 2005. It is true however that it is far more difficult to buy players in January, for a number of reasons. Firstly clubs don't want to destabilise the team by letting players go and having to replace them part way through the season. Secondly the calibre of players we are after are most likely going to be involved in European football and will therefore be cuptied.

I'm not so sure the issue that we weren't able to get the players to fill the positions we were weak in the summer really means we can't in January. The difference is that even though Comolli identifies the players, Jol still always said that he told Comolli which areas he wanted players for. Now Ramos has come in he will do the same thing, but it is clear that Ramos has very different ideas in terms of playing style and therefore in terms of the playing staff required. It never seemed like Jol had any issues with the centre of midfield, JJ was probably the first name on the team sheet, he was a massive fan of Hudd, loved Tainio etc. I think Ramos will probably be able to see far more easily coming from the outside where we are weak. When you are immersed in it every day for 3 years sometimes it is not so easy to notice what is staring you right in the face.

I don`t believe we do need another keeper, i think under Ramos and a better goalkeeping coach, robbo can improve to the standard we believed he was, when he signed, afterall everyone was wanking off when he signed that long term contract. Its my opinion he`s suffered under Hans Segars and the exploits of the world cup(for sum reason). Think a experienced CB with good leadership qualities is a must, other than that i dont think there is too much wrong, other than sum1 at the helm to guide them, which i now feel we have.

I don't think we've bought boughts loads but unless i'm mistaken which i often am we've signed Defoe, Dawson and Reid in January window and would have had Robinson but as rules didn't let us loan him straight back we just agreed to take him at the end of the season.

But we did bring in KPB, Kaboul and Jol did speak of his desire for a LW (he mentioned a Robben type). So, I think Jol probably had identified the key areas that needed strengthening. He clearly rated the Hudd, but still played Zokora a majority of the time, though he clearly wasn't overly impressed with Zokora. So, he probabky did ask for another CM, hence KPB. At CB he spoke about the likes of Distin and Mexes only recently, so again, it is likley he'd have liked a quality experienced CB aswell. But what got Kaboul.

But, I must stress, I personally don't think it is a simple case of Comolli going out and buying the wrong players. I think it is a case of Comolli buying the types of players Jol wanted, but in accordance to the clubs transfer policy. Hence we sign a young CB, CM and miss out on Petrov over transfer fee/salary/age issues. So whilst Ramos might have different ideas about how to play, I don't think the key areas he'd look to stregthen will really be any different to that of Jol. The probable acception being the GK.

It could be exciting times ahead in the transfer window in January, and I am always looking forward to it with excitement.

I hope we manage to keep star players like Chimbonda, Kaboul, King, Zokora, Lennon, Taarabt, Bent, Berbatov, Defoe, Keane, Bale, Assou-Ekotto, KPB, etc....

Would still love Downing. Realize I'll probably get slaughtered, but I think he's quality.

I like Downing and there are quite a few others who post here that do aswell. He'll never be a popular choice as fans like wide players who have pace and the shill to go a mazy runs. But, at the end of the day he has great record of creating goals, which ultimately is the main reason for wingers to be there. The ball travels faster than any player and his crosses are often top draw. He's currently ranked 12th on the list of midfielders in the Prem who have created the most chances for their team. By the end of the season he'll be in the top 10, he always is.

All depends on our results for the next 4 - 6 weeks, if we're losing too many, Ramos will be busy, if he can improve certain players and get some decent results, I'd say 2 or 3 players in at the most.

There is absolutely no way that we will be looking at Downing now,Jol is gone and the days of signing average players are hopefully behind us.
Ramos will train and develop the good players that we already have.He will then try to sell the ones that are surplus to requirements and will replace them with players of a higher calibre.
I suggest that for us to progress in the second part of the season we need a left back,a right back,a central midfielder and a quality back up goalkeeper.
Very difficult to sign players in January but we will certainly be busy.

We've got 3, all of which are good (at least BAE has potential to be good).

some people are just too obsessed by what the papers are doing on here...it's simple...if you don't like them don't read them
