That's why he bought new fullbacks instead of improving the ones he had.
And I'd argue the ones he bought in weren't that great either. Walker makes me laugh every time i see him play. Its incredible to think that even after all these years and with experience under his belt, he pretty much guarantees you a brainfart (or three) every single match. As for Mendy, don't even get me started.

Journalist: "So what are your plans for Lyon"

Pep: "We'll put them in a very difficult situation"

Journalist: "How so?"

Pep: "We'll make them face Bayern Munich"

Pep must have a mental block when it comes to these matches, he's always tinkering his teams which is why they've not got past the qf's...this is bottling in the truest sense.

Remember Mendys first season (well his first few games ) the whole social media Shark Team thing ? Such care free days. ...he is another expensive defensive flop there.

its all good beating stuffing burnley and villa but when they're match with equally talented players they often crumble. look how far they are behind Liverpool, inexcusable for a team that has spent that much money.

I don't rate pep much tbf

Yep, anyone can win the league with that City team and the oodles of dirty cash they have. See Mancini and Pellegrini. He’s undoubtedly a good coach, but most of his success has been down to the size of the clubs he’s managed. Barca weren’t exactly shit when he took over, and 9 times out of 10 Bayern win the German league no matter who’s in charge. He was brought in by City to win the CL, he’s bottled it every single season.

I’ll bet you that Pep is returning to Barcelona. For how long is Pep gonna sit and wait for Manchester City winning the CL?

& I bet he don't, the job at Barca looks a lot harder than improving MCity & I doubt Pep would want to get involved because it seems to be as much about the politics of the club & not just about the players they have.

The majority of players he's managed in is career have improved, you're always going to get some players who stagnate or regress but I don't think that's the norm.

By that logic Players like Muller/Mandzukic regressed under pep ... Also did players like stones/ederson/bravo/benjamin mendy/otamendi/jesus/cancelo/danilo really improve??

Although yesterday denayer was rock solid against city. Pep sold him for 6.5m ... May be he has improved a lot otherwise pep would not have sold him

I guess some teams may just be storming in English games but can choke against European oppositions. And the opposite may be true as well.
