good point.

but my main point is that we don't have fabrigas, gerrard etc at the centre of our midfield. there is no-one to stop.

Nah im sure they shti there pants at the sight off JJ gingerly running with the ball manically trying to find a pass...

Muntari is class

That there is a fuck up from Comolli, how can 'arry have landed Benjani and Muntai & we end up with Mr Average Zokora

The biggest fuck up was Diaby going to Arsenal for £2.5million and us spending £8.35million on Zokora.

IMO Benjani is just an average striker and apart from the two wonder goals against Villa, Multari hasn't done much either.

It is an interesting battle between two of Premier Leagues best central midfielders.

Portsmouth have an impressive squad, and like I have said before - Harry has always been good in the transfer market. He has also learned the rule of buying French/african players, with Benjani, Muntari, Utaka, Diop, Kanu, Distin, Pamarot, Lauren their main performers. Traore and Mvuemba are also involved.

The mixture between strength, pace and tecnique is the key here.

We have to be at our very best tomorrow, if we are to beat Portsmouth. I have to admit that I admire the way Harry works with Portsmouth, and it is no surprise for me that they are doing quite well.

Let's hope Tottenham can stand up and put in a great performance on Saturday. We need another 3 points.

Would you consider being Pompey king? or perhaps Arse King?

My team is Tottenham, and only Tottenham. Of course I wish we had learned a little bit from the other teams. I know that they have done some great deals, and what I want is that we also do great deals. I want us to progress and compete in the Champions League. With good player signings we will become a CL team. That is why I am so passionate about it. It is nothing more I want than us being a CL team.

And you honestly think that signing African players from French league will make us a CL team? So far the African/players with African origin signings from the French league haven't been very promising in achieving that goal...at least for us.

Hello Spursking, I'm new here.

Would you happen to be of African descent? And your love for African players is clouded because of your heritage?

I always wanted to ask the same.(since i'm here;) )

I have no problem at all with african or french players, in contrast there are a lot players of african descent that i admire but you are way to biased.

You seem to love every single african/french/black player, please realize that they are not always the best in every club and/or position,(look at Zokora e.g.) Spursking.

Thanks for the information SS57.

@Spursking:
No offense but even most players on your scoutingmanagement-website are black or somehow african, what kind of scouting is that?

I don't see there being any reason why Zokora and Muntari would really battle each other particuarly. JJ needs to worry more about Kranjcar and Mendes, not Muntari. Zokora, on the other hand, needs to concentrate on his positional game, rather than particular opposition players. He can't allow himself to get dragged out of position and he has to sit and protect the back 4. It is JJ who needs to get into their faces and stop them playing. Kranjar and Mendes are the two the make the play, so JJ has to interupt their rythem. Muntari, who is excellent and i wished we signed him, isn't a player teams can really pay special attention to. You just have to hope our defenders do their job better than he does his. If there is a player Zokora has to watch out for, it is Utaka getting in behind on the break, as he is very quick. The back 4 and Zokora will have to be positionally very good and if we get caught out, it will be down to Zokora to match Utaka for pace. I think individual battles are more of a media thing than a reallity. In the Spurs TV segment with Zokora, it seemed like the interviewer was trying to convince Zokora he was going to be in an individual battle with Muntari, rather than Zokora himself saying so.
Why the hell would JJ bother with Krancjar he's a bloody winger i hope he goes no-where near him as that'd mean he'd be way out of position. Muntari is a better all-round player than Zokora and is more the type of player we'd hoped we'd got with Zokora. Zokora is a decent player but thats all he is and will/could be. He's just distinctly average and never really attacks or helps the attack with any meaningful passes. That having said, he's not good enough DM or Jenas is not good enough AM for the partnership to work and dominate games. We may well get a bit over-run in midfield. Jenas,Zokora,Muntari and Mendas are all good passers of the ball it's just who will come out on top at the end of the day. However forget all of this, we will beat them 1-0 :) mark my words. It'll be a Berbatov goal in about the 56th minute.

He's not a winger. He plays out wide, but will come inside all game long and he's still the playmaker, in the same way Robert Prosinecki, another Croation who plaed out wide was.

This is what Jamie Redknapp said about his fathers team style last week:

"He loves a playmaker, a special player. He always has. There's nothing he hates more than a player who cannot pass the ball. When we were at Bournemouth he had a terrific midfielder called Shaun Brooks. Since then he has picked, Eyal Berkovic, Paul Merson, and now Niko Kranjcar."

He'll drift inside and make things happen, so JJ will have to get in his face. Who else can do it? Certainly don't want him dragging Zokora all over the place and Lennon is hardly the man for the job. Both Mendes and Kranjcar can't be allowed time on the ball and JJ will have to be the one to make sure they don't.

I think although last weeks game against man City was a bit scrappy at time, in hindsight what was probably not taken into account was Zokora and jenas were outnumbered (and not by wankers as with the Bham game) in the centre of midfield for 60(ish) minutes of that game yet still managed to have more possession than city and create 8 shots on target and only allow city 1. Jenas and Zokora both get a fair amount of slagging but the reality is that they have often come up against 3 CM's in games and come out on top. (or at leat held their own and owned more of the ball)

Portsmouth sometimes line up 5 across midfield. And much like city, they are a decent bunch of midfielders (Diop/Muntari/Davis/Mendes etc) with the wide players working hard as well. If they do we will have to win a battle to earn the right to play. It is vital that Ramos gets Lennon defending and tracking back.

Tough game. Again.

no one ever taught me that rule. when i was at school the national curriculum didn't include scouting or management. can you explain the rule?

is it like height x thigh circumference x (pronounceability of last name - size of afro) = scoutingmanagement rating?

I know we shouldn't take the piss out of other SC'ers but you've gotta laugh :)

I'll swear that when Pompey lined up against Villa last weekend Mendes started at LM and Utaka at RM, with Kranjcar, Muntari and Diop across the middle, although (as far as you could tell from the MOTD highlights) the arrangement was pretty fluid.

I think the way 'Arry uses Kranjcar is similar to how Moyes uses Arteta and Pienaar. Defensively, their job is to cover the wide midfield position. But when Pompey or Everton have possession, they'll usually drift inside and try to dictate the play.

It's the same problem Redknapp had with Andres D'Alessandro - a classic No 10 who ended up playing that hybrid LM role for Pompey. He's now at Zaragoza, who are so wed to a classic Benitez-style 4-4-2, with two essentially holding CMs, that Pablo Aimar and D'Alessandro end up as wide midfielders.

Anyway, today's game may very well be won and lost in midfield, and Pompey are pretty strong there. So, JJ, Zokora, Steed etc will really need to be on their game, and hopefully they'll be getting some help from our full-backs.
