One must give them credit for having a very strong gun barrel that can hold up the rest of the division.

Whisper it softly guys, but by my calculations, if we can manage a win tomorrow, we'll be top of the EPL and guess who's right on the bottom...?

Now, a table like that should be made a picture of and displayed somewhere for us all to look at whenever we need cheering up.

COME ON YOU SPURS TOMORROW!!!!!!

No points. No goals. No decent players. No clue. No Europe and now, bottom of the EPL and their fans were traipsing out of the stadium after a half hour. Today has been a wonderful, beautiful day especially following the fantastic cricket match at Headingley.

All the drinks are on me tonight!!!!!!! (sorry, I didn't realise the time..) ?‍♂️

And IF we win we be the only team in all 4 divisions with a 100% record.

It’s weird when people talk about the DNA of a club or the identity. You kind of think how can a stadium a group of 25 men and a fan base have a singular identity. But it does happen, it’s hard to quantify actually how. Quite hard to explain how in 10-15 years they’ve gone from an Elite winning club to an absolute sorry mess. I really wonder what part AFTV played in it, I’m sure there is some connection. Long may it continue ?

So Wenger left the club in May 2018 and Stan Kroenke completed his take over in August 2018.

Since then, if we just look at their signings (not including academy players, etc), their transfers 'in' have been woeful:

2018/19
DFStephan LichtsteinerFree transfer
GKBernd Leno£25.5m
DFSokratis Papastathopoulos£14.4m
MFLucas Torreira£27m
MFMatteo Guendouzi£8m£74.9m
2019/20
CBWilliam Saliba£27m
RWNicolas Pépé£72m
LBKieran Tierney£25m
CBDavid Luiz£8m£132m
2020/21
CBPablo Marí£7.2m
RBCédric SoaresFree transfer
RWWillianFree transfer
CBGabriel£23.12m
GKRúnar Alex Rúnarsson£1.8m
DMThomas Partey£45m£77.14m
2021/22
DFNuno Tavares£7.2m
MFAlbert Sambi Lokonga£15.75m
DFBen White£50m
MFMartin Ødegaard£30m
GKAaron Ramsdale£24m£126.95m

TOTAL SPEND: £410.99m

We all knew that their transfer business was bad, but until you lay it out in a list like that, you can't really get your head around just how bad it's been.

How do you take a Top 5/6 club, spend the best part of half a billion and turn it into a mid-table (or worse) club?

It's astonishing!

Their problems started when Dein left. Their new stadium also cost them as it didn’t generate enough revenue to service debt and maintain their position. That coincided with Wenger’s era ending, and when one manager who has been successful for so long leave it takes time to move on (look at Utd after Fergie left). And probably most relevant of all, they were the biggest victims of Man C and Chelsea’s financial doping as it coincided with their new stadium debts. They’ve also bought incredibly badly last few seasons and got senior players who do not have the right character.

Btw, out of all those players above, I'd only say that Leno has been any good.

Tierney and Partey could have been (may still be) good, but they seem to be injured all the time.

Torriera seemed to be okay and show promise, but doesn't seem to fancy it at Arsenal for whatever reason.

I suppose Ben White might come good with a decent defensive set-up around him.

If I had the time, I'd have a look at all the young exciting prospects that were bought by other clubs over this 4 year period, to see what Arsenal could have spent their money on.

I'm fairly certain Paratici could assemble a Top-4 side for £400m from 2018-2021

The ownership don't know what they're doing and don't seem to care either.

The first thing they should have done was put together an elite senior-management team (not hire Edu!!!).

After that, they could go about shaping the club to be a really lean, efficiently run, professional and vibrant entity.

Oh well...
