Right. I’ve just been through all the top 6/7 teams in serie A on transfermarkt. Only one who fits the bill is Calhanoglu from Inter. He’s the only one who can match Maddison for stats and similar positions.

might tie in with the inter ITK we’ve had hints at.

And of course, he’s been mentioned before.
Maddison > Calhanoglu all day long

I think this guy is a bit of a tit and a bit over rated. However he is Orem proven and that’s huge. We want to hit the ground running and not having to acclimatise too many players is important

Totally. Honestly, I’m struggling to think is someone that could match his stats that’s even remotely available, let alone a prem ready one.

What I would say is, maybe, the type of player we could be after is more of a creative midfielder rather than goal threatening attacking midfielder. Maybe it’s more of a type/fit judgement we’d be making.

Hard to think of a better, attainable player AM though

Well I certainly don't think that checks the "most people will be happy" box. Personally think he would be significant downgrade on Maddison

The only player that I can think of that's been linked with a move away and can play a lot of positions up front is Bernardo Silva but don't think he'd agree to join Spurs.

Wow! I dont frequent other teams forums very often, very occasionally the West Ham one and obviously the Arsenal one when I need cheering up.

They seem pretty level headed and reasonable, if the club need the money they need the money, dont want to lose him but two years left, if he goes be grateful for what he gave us, need incoming signings etc etc.

What is up with that part of the country? There is a script to follow when we want one of their players, don't they know: Spurs are shit. No trophies since the dinosaurs. Kane's crocked. Son's old. Conte is fucking off at the end of the season......

Don't see how he fits in the Conte system. He's not got the work rate to do the Kulusevski role and he's not a similar type to Son
How do we know he doesnt have the work rate? It is hard to make those assumptions unless you see the player in the system. Also, to be fair to Rogers, his teams play at a very high tempo. You can’t go full Dele in a team like that. From what I have seen, he puts in a shift every game. Not a player id ever accuse of being a slouch. As for our system… the point for Conte is to have options to shift the tactics in a game. Maddison is similar to Eriksen in my opinion. Both can play in a front 3. Both can sit in a 10 behind a front 2. Or be an AM in a 352. Hence, he does check a lot of boxes.

Does he come across like a bit of a prat? a little bit. But I think he does work hard on the field. And under Conte, he can get into his head and make him feel that he is as good, if not better than Grealish and Foden

I appreciate this isn’t the right thread but doesn’t seem to be anywhere else to say it. Most people assume that we want an AM for creativity? I wonder if it is more to do with ensuring there is another goal threat if we play 3-5-2. The creativity comes from the wing backs and from direct play out of CM. I don’t think we should be expecting a creative AM.

For me I can’t look beyond SMS. Massive goal threat, hard working, tall and physical and incredible in the air. Last year of contract and apparently recently refused a one year contract extension. Lazio chair is as stubborn as Gibson but seems he might finally be available for something reasonable. I still think we’d be looking at £60m even though final year as he would want to save face and there will be many suitors.

Unbelievable talent and could play in a double pivot CM too. He’s also got a fantastic splitting pass on him and has assisted plenty in serie a.

You are too kind. I have been hoping them to be relegated after they won the title.
Yeah a moment of weakness/kindness... them Newcastle and West Ham.... gave me the greatest pleasure seeing them yoyo down to the championship all the time.

If we want someone to play in a 3 and add creativity if we want to switch to a 352, then Fabian Ruiz is my choice. Much better than Maddison on the ball, he can play in a 2 and be a lot cheaper being in his last year of contract at Napoli. I would even prefer him over SMS.

He is also totally unproven in the PL which has to be balanced

He would fit our system perfectly, he would easily adapt in my opinion. We have already purchased players knowing the PL, so have that balance so don’t see why we should limit our options looking for a CAM in just the prem.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t I’m saying there is a balanced view here. As what we probably feel we can get from Maddison is an instant impact. You don’t get the same level of confidence without them being tried and tested in the league and that may play a part.

We need to start well to have any chance next season
