He's been magnificent until today. He wasn't that bad and took a shot to the face thst no one here would have got up from.

Haters and all that.
He's improved, overall, to the point where he's an OK CB option whereas initially he was scary. To say magnificent is the overstatement of the century.

Last night he was pants. At fault for the first goal trying to be clever. He often lost his man with runs in behind him and is always in the wrong position so that a cross can be floated over his head. He's not commanding enough in the air.

I love Eric the person, his personality and commitment are not in question. He may yet improve. At the moment however, he's an average CB.

It’s the lack of urgency that pisses me off as much as the mistakes and slack passing last night. 2-0 down and the guy is playing walking football at the back.

The reality is, when under Poch we were a very good side, he couldnt get in the team because Toby and Jan were much better. Years on he is a locked starter, thats a problem. He's improved massively and credit to him but if we wish to go to the next level he wont be part of it.
That’s not the reality at all.

In 2015/16 and 2016/17, he started 34 and 32 league games. In 2015/16 that was as a defensive midfielder, and in 2016/17 that was mostly in between Jan and Toby in a back three.

Might be a little harsh considering he should clearly have come off after getting smashed in the bonce?

If we are brutally honest, he isnt going to get us to that next level. Good to have in the squad but i’ll be shocked if hes still starting come next season.

I genuinely wouldnt mind a Bonucci or De vrij coming in and playing in the big games. Dier in the others.

We should be all over De Vrij in Jan I reckon, will only have 6 months left on his contract so won't be mega money and Inter are going through a shit patch so will need to spend themselves. £20m in Jan gets him IMO.

I’m amazed he is still at our club as a first team starter . Always has a mistake in him . When u think we had prime jan and Toby and now him !
You're quite serious? Obviously unfair to compare him to Jan and Toby, but Dier has been one of our best players the past year. He plays his role very well. Last night the whole team was off, that's not on him.

Were you in a coma when our form dropped off a cliff when he was out injured last season?

He’s absolutely fundamental to the way we play. He had a bad game against Man U. But so did everyone of our players bar Hugo.

You can count his bad games on one hand since Conte came in. Most fans have been up in arms that Southgate seemingly was overlooking him until recently.

I really don’t see him replaced anytime soon.

Yes. Magnificent.

A 2 footed cb who knows not to rush in but to cover. Essential to making a back 3 work. He's been brilliant.

We didn't lose yesterday because of our back 3. We lost because our midfielders don't know how to support the attack in a 3 yet. We carried no threat and couldn't retain possession so were forced to watch our defence for 80 minutes.

Both shots were outside the area and both scored by a free man our mifielders didn't close down.

But sure, blame Eric. I'm pretty sure you always have.
He hasnt been brilliant. When has anyone ever said he has been brilliant against any of the top teams?

we dont deserve to win trophies with him playing sadly, had 8 years to see his simply not good enough to take us to a elite level, the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, city would of got rid long ago
