It would also be a disgrace if we spent a fortune on specifically 'Conte' players and he subsequently went back to Italy, either for personal reasons or because Juventus are flashing their knickers. One thing I don't want is to be saddled with a load more players the manager doesn't want, and until Conte pisses or gets off the pot we're in limbo.
There is always a risk associated with that, regardless of him signing a contract. He could still be sacked or resign anyway.

Firstly, it sounds mad but 200m over 3 windows isn't huge backing. United spent that in 6 months for ETH, Chelsea have spent triple that since Boehly took over, and Arsenal have spent more as well.

Secondly, some of that money went on Spence (who Conte didn't want), Udogie (who's a loan back) and potentially Danjuma (who, if Zaniolo doesn't come in, was pretty clearly a plan B).

Porro would be a great signing but let's not pretend we've backed him to the hilt. Porro would be the 4th starter we've signed for him.
Not too mention one of the most important roles in a Conte system is the wingbacks.

He got Perisic, who was free but experienced and Spence, who is a kid and Conte had to compromise on.

That is not FULL BACKING

Isn't this why there is a DoF in place? They are meant to be involved in the long term continuity of the team and not just the here and now.

They make long term footballing decisions and look to appoint managers that look for the same squad characteristics.

Ideally Conte signs long term and commits, but we still need good players here and now to help for this season anyway.

As long as we aren't signing players for the sake of being cheap, but based on the merits of their footballing ability and personality to fit with the squad then we should absolutely continue to sign players.

We all know that Conte is a very emotional man and no one can know for sure what he will do, come the end of the season.

I feel if we finish strong and have a great run of form and the feel good factor is there, he may just sign on and continue. On the other hand the opposite can also happen, where we actually don't improve and it becomes toxic, he may just decide this isn't it for him.

Let's just support the team and Conte till the end of the season, so we can finish as strong as we can. Let him have a short break away with his family to reassess after the season and go from there. If he decides after a break he's ready to keep going then great stuff, but if he decides he needs more time away from football, then that's also understandable.

He just needs to see out the season and have a bit of personal time to think things over. I for one feel he may just stay if we finish strong and the fans show full support.

Indeed, and that is why a DoF will buy a Spence, or Gil, or Sarr every now and again. These inexpensive but potentially high reward purchases are what successful teams do regularly. It what allows us to have a near sighted manager like Conte.

Flip side is - if we buy "Conte" players, and they don't fit the new manager - we can sell them to Conte's new team...

Wasn't sure whether to put this in here or the Enic out thread(I'm sure it'll soon migrate there anyway), but I've just been told, and considering where it's come from I very much believe it to be true, that Conte has been offered a new contract and it's been sat on his desk for a while. Make of that what you will but Levy has made the offer, and it hasn't as yet been accepted or rejected!!!

Sitting there until Feb 1st I imagine

This stuff from Di Marzio could all be a push from Conte's side to back da ting

Conte playing 3D chess with Baldy to see who blinks first, the recent “ Daniel Levy get out of our club” and vociferous Conte chants would have helped his cause…

Would love for him to stay. For some reason I feel like he has a good connection with the fans, with the squad and would love for him to be the one to end the trophy draught with Kane by his side.

Also, if Porro does happen, would love to see his system with Udogie and Porro. Nothing would bring me less joy to have those two young players in those positions and our next manager say they don't fit that system ? ?

For me, rather he signs and brings some stability rather than another manager search - we've all seen how that has gone in the past haha

We need someone to creep in there and sign it and stick it in levy’s pigeon hole!

Or put a decent run of wins together to help persuade him to sign it himself!

The vision for next season becomes so much clearer/ better if conte signs the contract.
With recent Kane news I’m sure he’ll be alot more convinced to stay if conte signs.
Porro/udogie flying down the wing
2 new CBs, GK in the summer?

It needs sorting and I’m glad we’re at least trying to sort this mess out.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing trix. I really believe we should get behind AC and back him as much as possible. We won't get another manager with his track record in. Time for a squad overhaul, not another manager search.

You'd have thought that the club's PR would have let this be known in the public domain or fed via 'sources' to the likes of Ally Gold/Dan Kilpatrick to effectively push the onus back on Conte considering the flak they are receiving right now.
