He himself mentioned confidence the last couple of interviews, which I thought interesting.

He looked in a bit of pain when he came off. Made me wonder if he’s been struggling with a niggle all season. It wouldnt be the first time we’ve kept on playing a player who isn’t 90% let alone 100% fit.

Interesting I thought, felt he wasn't getting himself opportunities but he is, hes likely just been a bit unlucky with some of these efforts in the league, plus he obviously hasn't been great on the other side of the game in carrying the ball, but reason to suggest he's improving again especially after yesterday and v Fulham.

I think that your gut feeling here is correct, i.e. that Son is not getting himself enough opportunities.

Below are the xG numbers for the same players in the league.

Haaland xG 18.90
Kane xG 13.45
Mitrovic xG 11.75
Nunez xG 9.59
Son xG 4.90

Nunez story of the season is that he hasn’t been clinical enough in front of goal having only scored 5 goals from 9.59 expected goals while Son’s lack of output this season is more about not finding good enough chances as he has scored 4 goals from 4.90 expected goals.

I just saw that Sonny has moved up to 7th on Spurs all-time list with 139.

Defoe is next at 143, and then maybe a shot at Jones at 154.

His face does look more back to normal now. The swelling has gone down for sure. Got to help.
? mate.
Not being rude but perhaps some on here haven’t played football at all or to a good level or ever worn a mask before ? because it astonished me that people were dismissing the fact it would have been effecting his performances!

It would have been having a huge impact mentally and physically.

No surprise to me he looks much more like his old self.

Someone at the Athletic did a breakdown of Son’s XG over his time with us. before this season he has outperformed his XG by more than anyone else.
all this stats stuff is beyond me but basically what it means is that he scores loads of goals when there isn’t really a chance. 20 yards out and just curls the ball into either corner. How many times has he done that for us. Hoping he can really get going now. Deki isn’t quite 100% yet. City at home would be a nice game for that front3 to start performing as they did last season.

Remarkable.
This is a bit like Anderson and Broad for England at cricket. To have one of the all time greats for your club in your lifetime is ace. To have had two of them, at the same time, for the largest parts of their own careers is probably something the majority of us will never see again.

We've been really blessed with these two, no matter what their current form is.

Looked almost back to his best this evening. Running at defenders at pace, taking the ball on, dragging us up the pitch, not just shooting on sight but picking the right pass.

That run he made first half(I think) when he blitzed passed about 4 of them and carried the ball about 50/60 yards up towards their goal was the Sonny we know.

Doesn't look good or threatening at all imo, he just isnt getting the ball in dangerous places,

I feel like every time he gets the ball he has 4 defenders in front of him or around him

Thought he looked sharp vs City, his best all-around performance of the season

Lately he has been a liability with an inability to maintain or use possession. Big step forward at PNE and today he got involved and used the ball well. Perhaps having genuine competition has sparked Son and Emerson.

perhaps having Bents and Kulu back means the team is much more productive with the ball, and we know he's always at his best on the counter with green grass to run into

Aside from the Leicester cameo this was his best game of the season . Wanting the ball and running at defenders . Made good decisions with the ball . Let’s hope he can add some end product in the 2nd half of the season .

I agree. He does look like he’s lost a yard of acceleration though for sure. I still wonder if he’s carrying an injury of some sort. He was really good defensively yesterday. Much more of a team player than at other times this season.

He looked better all round, but in the final third, sons biggest thing was finding space in the third to get off a shot whether from beating the offside trap/back 4 with movement or cutting inside to find pockets of space

The difference this season, he just can't find space at all to get a good chance

I think he is getting his form back, we need him to have a successful end to the season
