Yeah there’s no news now. Apologies to the thread starter but I’m putting him on ignore so the thread disappears. Every time I see it at the top of the page I think there’s new info when in fact it’s the same shit as last week.
Well he’s not been online since 2013 so he probably doesn’t mind 😂

A lot of us have understandably low expectations for this coming season anyway so we'd be better off taking that risk now than leaving it until next year and not getting anything in return.

I think with fewer games, the correct defensive reinforcements, and Maddison added to our team we will finish top 7/8 even if Kane goes, and then we can build from there once the squad settles.

It's all about opinions but for me it wouldn't be a disaster if we sold Kane and didn't get another striker in until January/next Summer providing we strengthen in other areas.
Why?

Top 6 is a base minimum expectation.

As someone who's forked out over a grand on a ticket. I expect us to not write off 6 months.

Not sure we’d be writing off 6 months. In an attacking system with maddison no reason we should struggle for goals with Richie in his best position. Son fully fit too.

In 2012 we sold a player who was so much more than just a midfield maestro. Every pass was poetry, every move was majestic. Glorious to behold, as if he came down from heaven via Croatia. My heart was broken when the sale was announced, and I was convinced we'd never see such a stunning player play for us again.

But here we are, 11 years later, and even though I miss Niko Kranjcar every day, we've gone on to achieve so many great things since his departure. So, if Kane wants to go - cool runnings to him.

I think top 6 is optimistic. I'm happy to give Ange a bit more wriggle room than that as long as it looks like we're heading in the right direction.

If he goes, the idea of having him back to break the record is nice but who is to say we'll need him back?

If I can try my hardest to be optimistic... maybe in a few years we'll be playing super fast tempo, high pressing attacking football with young players in 3-4 years? We might not want a 33 year old Kane back - he's no slouch but he is big lad and ain't gonna be getting any quicker.

Look how it panned out with Ronaldo at Utd.

I'd say top-6 is par, but that we shouldn't throw our toys out of the pram if we make bogie in the first season.

As you said, Postecoglou should be judged on the transformation, not the end result, in the first year.

Harry is just giving his brother something to do this summer while he intends to see out the final year of his contract here.

This is just a lesson for everyone, don't involve family in your business, because what do you do when they turn out to be incompetent?

For me Top 6 and a cup run would be a successful season after the last few horrendous years. Top 8 would be acceptable.

Euch wrong thread.

RE Kane I still think he's going nowhere unless Bayern are in 9 figure territory.

Top 6 is more realistic if we keep Kane. I fancy he will help us win games while we don't play well as he did last season. It's not going to be a quick change to the way Ange will have us playing. Celtic struggled early on but they didn't have Kane so maybe with him we will get results early. The reason teams like Newcastle and Brighton have done well without a Kane is because they have been managed well as team. We haven't honestly functioned well as a team and certainly not an attacking one for some time. Kane and Son (more the previous season) carried us a lot of times. We need to be carried that bit longer while we transition for me.

Yeah going the young root by far would make the most sense unless we sold Richy also but i also don't think we would spend the kind money it would take to get a player like Højlund or Ferguson as they are two of the biggest young CF's breaking through atm and would likely cost a bomb. Part of me almost wonders if we would bring in cheaper young prospect at CF and then spend a larger amount on a stand out RWF.
Yea that could also work and Son and Richy can cover ST as we have Kulu, Maddison, Solomon, Gil and in your plan the new RWF to cover those 5 positions

I thought the Bale money was fine as it got us Eriksen and Lamela. The thing is you don't necessarily spend it all on one player otherwise its much riskier. Like if we spent the money on 6 players 1 or 2 might turn out great. Maybe people will decide Maddison is doing well let's make out the Kane money paid in part towards him  You can guarantee if we sold Kane and we end up with 7 players this window you could just select the best ones and claim it as the Kane money. The shit ones were Winks etc money.
Well Soldado and Lamela were flops as much as people like Lamela he was constantly injured for best part of 7 years and his end product was hardly amazing. Eriksen of the 7 was the only good signing really.

I don't think the money was fully wasted but it could've ideally worked a bit better:
Roberto Soldado (flop)
Erik Lamela (flop) *some occasional good moments*
Etienne Capoue (flop)
Vlad Chiriches (flop)
Paulinho (flop)
Nacer Chadli (decent player)
Christian Eriksen (very good signing)

So 1 big hit, 1 good signing, 1 who had a few good moments and 4 flops, that's a pretty poor return.

Our signings this summer look way better on the whole so if we carry on in this vein then it should work out well if we sold Kane for £80-100+mil.

On the other hand.

We replaced Bale with an excellent playmaker in Eriksen and 2 good squad players in Lamela and Chadli. We sold them for a profit which led to the signings that took us to consistent top 4 finishes.

Surely any bid for Kane has to start from what Rice is worthed?

Kane leaving is a matter of time, we might as well get the most from him. I'm just gutted that if he does indeed leave this summer, we couldn't see the linkup between Maddison and him, like ffs when we finally landed Maddison..
Rice effectively has two years left on his contract if West Ham trigger their additional year option and Arsenal will be looking at having Rice for a minimum of 10 years so if it started from there it sadly has to go downwards.

Add attacker premium and the fact Harry Kane is a considerably better footballer.

I think its a question of what a player is worth to us too and the price would be more for a rival club. We would more likely take 100m from a team abroad but not from England.
Partly this but also what does Harry want to do?

I can’t question his application or commitment but does he want to go now? Will he actually choose Bayern? Depending on where he is on this should seriously dictate what we do about this interest.

Makes no difference what I think but personally I’d rather get money for him and sell him abroad. Unless we get an extension (with some release clauses) and 25/30 goals from him this season then I think we’ll have made the wrong call in keeping him. Could be out of our hands either way if he wants to run his contract down

Oh come off it let's be real, we're lucky he's hung around this shit show the last few years. He doesn't owe us anything.
It’s not the leaving it’s going to ManU. I’m from the NW and hate them with a vengeance. Plus they took Carrick, Sherringham and Berbatov from us which was bad enough this would be beyond th pale.
