That wasn’t the question. The question was where will most pundits see us?
Disagree. Any pundit worth his or her salt will look at all the factors, see that we finished 4th only the season before (!) and be a bit more balanced and measured.

Opining that we are definitely going to finish below Brighton and Villa on the basis of our performances in mainly the 2nd half of last season is lazy.

Undoubtedly Villa and Brighton have progressed but they both had dodgy spells last season. Is that being taken in to account??!

Because Lineker is a Grade-A prick who thinks the sun shines out of his arse.

Got chucked out of the golf club he was a member at a few years back because he was a tosser.
I was panhandling on Barnes high street, where he lives. I asked him for some change. He didn't give me any. But he did give me one of those 'Sorry, what could I do, the crisps were just too good!?' looks that he does at the end of Walkers adverts...whilst claiming he didn't have anything.

Next time I'm going to ask him if he still has any Qatari change, and say it doesn't matter if there's still blood on it.

Why does Lineker have to be so classless when it comes to Spurs? Yes -looking like Kane will go. But the disrespect he puts on us... Given that people were convinced Chelsea would smash it last season - they flopped - stating we wont be near top 4 as "fact" is bollocks

The truth hurts.... I agree with Lineker here. 8 to 10th is where I see us finishing.

Really don’t think we will finish that low at all.

I think City & Arsenal will be far too consistent for us but beyond that:
•Man.U - will have CL games to contend with and will be strong but I don’t expect them to set the league on fire this season but I do expect them to finish around 3rd again after some fairly astute signings and Ten Haag is imo a class manager
•Newcastle - think their league form will dip with having to deal with CL games, their squad isn’t quite there yet and Howe no experience of managing a team through a PL & CL campaign. I think we have a very reasonable chance of finishing above them
•Liverpool - conceding goals for fun end of last season and in pre-season, I think they’ll be a bit better than last season but that the players and Club are getting a bit tired out of Klopp now and so I think if we click we could pip them.
•Chelsea - I think we will finish above them, their squad is a mish mash mess and their manager is a Tottenham reject ;)
•Villa & Brighton have European campaigns to deal with and won’t imo match last seasons league form.

For me if we keep Kane and/or if we replace him well and sign 2 top CB’s and possibly another attacker maybe a RW I think we could finish anywhere from 3rd-6th but certainly don’t see us 8-10th, no way.

Liked your post because I understand your reasoning.... I don't agree on Chelsea....they'll be top 4. They'll be properly managed under Poch with some real quality... no European football so he can truly focus.

For me...
City or Arsenal wining the league.
3rd United
4th Chelsea/ Liverpool.
6th Newcastle
7th Villa ( Unai Emery is an experienced tactician he'll focus his squad on each game.)
8th Brighton
9th Spurs... ( If Kane stays little further up)

I'll caveat that by saying 6th to 9th will be close on points. So maybe we get 7th... but that table above is where I see us finishing.
Then again we could have a Arsenal 2022 season from 8th in 2021 to pushing for but just missing out on 4th.

Oh on Liverpool...lots of players out... they'll be rebuilding... let's see how thet get along this season.

I don’t agree but we shall see and depends on Kane situ and our further incomings.

If all goes to plan I think we can finish 3rd to 6th.

Either way it’ll be an enjoyable season with 30 shots a game!!! :)

Yeah... it's a prediction.... 3rd & 4th....no ways. New manager to the league... squad upheaval etc.... but I liked the look of Maddison in there... so I could see a 6th place if it all clicks.... manager is my biggest doubt though... new to the league, managed in minor leagues etc.

I call bullshit on that.
Last season was fucked with many obstacles and shackles.
I sense this season we will fight and have a squad to pick a team from.

And we don't. Let that sink in for a moment and then consider the dinosaurs we've hired in recent years.

That said, Villa being in the 'Loser's League' as opposed to us (simply because we were even more shit) is one bonus emerging out of the ashes of last season's shitshow.

At least (in theory) we can now re-build without any outside distractions.

+ We now have an attacking coach to get the best out of players who are proven to be high in terms of output consistently.

+ We only play week to week with a bigger (and better) squad than Brighton, Villa and Newcastle who all have an extra 6 games minimum plus travel.

+ A lot of smoke about Tonali, Traore, Kudus and they may all turn out to be good but Maddison is proven PL quality and looks like he fits the system perfectly.

+ There are a lot of talented players (Lo Celso, Porro, Kulusevski, Sarr, Bissouma, Romero) that don't get considered by rival fans or pundits at times. Some of those havent lived up to their ability yet or have had disappointing seasons.

I would also add most pundits or so shite at looking at the full picture.

For example, Newcastle have an excellent season = they have made it now, they will stay.

In reality, they actually took advantage of all of Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea being a disaster. That was genuinely an anormal season. Usually 1, or maybe 2, have a poor season, but 3?

We have seen, multiple times, a big team have a poor season and then have a very strong season immediately after. Chelsea do this often and it usually pushes that team who had an anormal season down.

A lot of pundits forget that just a year ago we were perceived to have a strong team and couldbe in the mix. Despite performances we did pick up a lot of points early, a sign of a good team - cause poor teams simply dont do that.

Then our issues came to the fore and completely derailed us. Coach dying, coach losing friends, Paratici scandal, coach self sabotaging, 2 amateur coaches getting the gig.

It was a total disaster. That would have rocked even the best of teams.

All totally overlooked by media and rival fans though.

Based on both your responses...you not worth engaging on a rationale cogent discussion. cheers (y)

You’re entitled to your opinion, and for what it’s worth I somewhat agree with you.

I feel like this will be a very transitional season, we have new players to bed in, a new system to get used to which is completely opposite of what we’ve been playing for a couple years, a very high risk high reward system at that, and one of the most competitive top 10’s this league has ever seen. Not to mention we may be losing our club talisman. This will be by far and large Ange’s biggest test as a manager, and we have no idea how the fan base will react when the going gets tough which it inevitably will.

Everyone seems to be riding high on excitement at the moment because we’ve looked good in preseason and the system Ange plays is tailored to 95% of the fan bases preferences but they’re neglecting to see the obvious weaknesses in the squad and how that will effect us over the course of a season. Add to that, that losing Kane will be immense.

I’ll be pleasantly surprised to see us finish any higher than 6th this season. And I’m okay with that too. We need a season or two to bed into our new system and to let Ange mold the team. Realistic expectations from me.

Couldn't say it any better.... its why I'm saying 8th or 9th and happy to see the foundations of something excellent being put together... amazing how people don't see the wood from the trees.

If we finish higher than 8th I'm a very happy supporter as well. Great reply. 👍

Even as a transitional season an 8th-9th place mid table finish would be piss poor and I'd be seriously looking at the manager if that's where we finished.

I can see why pundits and opposing fans would expect us to be weak this season. New manager no one's heard of, new signings no one's heard of, star striker probably leaving, and existing players no one really rates. I think we are going to surprise a lot of people, with or without Kane. Our squad is much better than people realise, we have a lot of players who were made to look dreadful under previous managers. It'll be an up and down season, but i reckon we'll be back in the top 6.

Par for the course is 4th - 6th. That's what it should be, based on all of the factors.

We have a much better team/squad than newcastle/villa and Brighton.

Unsure why you mention Chelsea being properly managed without Europe as a positive and not use that for us? While the three teams in bold are going to be in Europe having never been there before or for many, many years and we don't know how they will manage it or if it will negatively affect their league form. West Ham won the conference league but were in a relegation battle for much of the season.

I think we'll be in the European places at the very least with or without Kane.
