From the bits and pieces I've seen of him, he reminds me a bit of Aguero and Defoe, but obviously on a different level. I'd take a punt. We've missed loads like this through dithering.

We're really lucky to live in a time where there's an abundance of generational talents
Winner x100. I’ve heard this word used for every half decent player going this summer and it’s wearing thin. Time for this to go in room 101 along with Ange's style of football, double pivot and Plettigoal

I agree it’s a risk worth taking absolutely, I just don’t know why everyone’s so cool about him coming in at a time where even our starting striker is under question when maybe we should be looking a safer bet
Ange has said Son can slot into the No. 9 role. Son spent years as Harry's main backup at a time when Harry had lots of problems with his ankles, and has a brilliant scoring record when played up front. We've got two senior strikers and two young prospects at the club already, it's a perfect chance to take a punt on a high-risk/high-reward signing.

I get the defending in the Belgian league is shit but the thing that makes him stand out is the quality of his finishing. Maybe I'm wrong but not sure the defending matters so much - if he is amazing a thunder****ing the ball into the back of the net that shouldn't change as long as we create the chances for him.

It’s a punt, to be sure, but this lad’s rise has been nothing short or meteoric. His statistical finishing rate is in the absolute top bracket.

It may well turn out to be a flash in the pan but it’s exciting and a risk well worth taking. With Scarlett and Veliz (himself recognized as one of the top teenage strikers in the world) we are well-positioned for the future even if Orban is a flop.
High statistical finishing rate is not to be sniffed at at any level.

For strikers more than any position that intrinsic ability to know where the goal is and take your chances under pressure is something that just can't be taught. He looks like he has a range of finishing ability too which always helps, coupled with the sense of knowing where to be to get the chances.

He's raw for sure but the bit that can't be taught is already there. The other bits can be developed.

Its not just his finishing - you also see his passing , weight of passing and crosses. The lad is a natural. Also, movement inside the box is unreal.

The fact that we have players like Gil who struggled in conference league...and this guy smashed the conference league with a fastest hatrick against a reasonably good Turkish side. Those goals were also class goals

I'm not sure a Vlahovic would be any less of a punt. And probably costs twice as much in wages and transfer fee.

Most signings are a gamble. If our scouting team feel this guys amazing trajectory is just getting started then it's worth a go. At that price if it doesn't work out we could recoup a lot of the 30 and roll the dice again.

Your basis of him having a high ceiling is very risky considering he’s never even played youth level football
Yes but most strikers never achieve Gift’s goal rate even at youth levels, much less in a professional league. It’s certainly a risk but if he continues at this pace every club in Europe will want him so we have to make a bet now on whether or not we think he’ll make it.

I can’t see how people are super excited about this. He’s had one year at top ish football in Belgium and we’re throwing 30m at him? Isn’t that an insane risk ?
wouldn’t it be a lot more safer to go for someone more established who we know isn’t having a good purple patch in a poor league ?

The Belgium league has a higher ranking than Scotland.

It’s 8th in Europe, and someone like Modric was from a even weaker league.

Always see people saying ‘if we spend that much, it should be on someone more ready made’ ….yet they never suggest who that option might be.. almost like they don’t exist at that price point.

Agree. I’m not sure the defending in whichever league Haaland played prior to Germany was all that either. Look what happened when he moved to a better league.
