I know everyone is starved to win something but bottom line is getting back to CL has to be number one priority for this club going forward and that means League takes priority.

It hurts like hell to lose but willing to bet Ange learned a lot more tonight about his squad than he would have by playing majority of his top 11. Certain players that put on in training certainly failed to impress in an actual match. He will now have full clarity on what this squad needs going forward and what players he can trust for our league games.
I think he should have done a bit of both and made 4-5 changes instead of the 9. That way, you're maintaining some rhythm, and the players that you're assessing are playing with good players around them. I think obvious starters were Romero and Vicario, given the latter needs to adapt to the league and we want Micky and Romero to build up a solid partnership. It seems Sanchez is on his way out too so that one was particularly questionable.

There is absolutely no way Ange picked Sanchez to take a pen, I’d bet a lot of money certain “experienced” players said they didn’t fancy it and it was left to Sanchez to step up. Hojbjerg should be embarrassed. I don’t blame Sanchez for that miss one bit, he had the balls to take one when it was clear others didn’t.

Bullshit mate. No need to do that in this game. None whatsoever!! I’m sick of it. I like Ange but fuck me that was some stupid shit on view. And putting Scarlett on for GLC? 🤦🏻‍♂️.
I think he trusted his players, I’m not sure he will again.

Im not talking Sanchez or Davies, who I expect he knows about but the likes of GLC, PEH and Royale really did them selves no favours tonight.

9 changes was massive overkill. It doesn’t help those coming in either. Change 4-5 if you want a look at players but keep the core unit moving. We were away to Premier League opposition this wasn’t an opportunity to learn it was an opportunity to advance in a cup competition to try and win some silverware that we desperately need.
We would've had six more games to win, so it's not exactly like we were *so close*.

I'm fuming.

In my opinion, that can only be labelled as a big mistake from Ange.

For a team desperate to win a domestic cup, that has a calendar clear of any European distractions, and that has built up a lot of good feeling with the good start to the season, he just cannot, CANNOT, pick such an understrength starting XI.

He picked at least 4 players we are (by all accounts) actively looking to shift in the next 3 days, we all watched the limitation of skipp, Hoijberg etc all for the last 2/3 seasons, and no one in that midfield is capable of taking the ball on the half turn, and creating attacks.

I'm shocked by his decisions if I'm honest.

As an aging Yiddo(52, but look good for my age,HONEST), I have been here too many times in the league cup(Burnley at home in the 80's,1-4). These days I try to remain level headed.
So our 2nd 11 drew at Fulham over 90 minutes, pens are a lottery. Move on and have a beer and wear your Tottenham tops and badges, ect. tomorrow,
because real fans never hide.

Genuinely baffled by Hojbjerg's performance. Just an absolutely absurd player.

Well priortising it in the last few years hasn't taken the club forward. Why do we need to priortise getting back into the champions league?

I think Ange saw the second half teams in these summer friendlies and thought these lads will be raring to go. Thing he didn’t count on, is the same certain players arses collapsing like they always do when put under any pressure whatsoever.

It was always going to be tough tonight, Away draw to Premier league London rivals 2 days after a tough away game in the Prem. The Gods weren't smiling on us.

It really not that important sure we sacked a manager on the eve of a carabao final. So thankfully the club don't take these things called cups that serious.

Its 10 years + ....every time, a Tottenham manager claim pregame, they will take the cup seriously.
And for 10 years, their line up will say the exact opposite.

With no Europe, we had no business to put out a B team.

I am fuming that yet again a Spurs manager thinks he knows better.

I hope Ange truly regrets this - but I am just pessimistic that managers we get for another 10 years will learn this.

how much more evidence does anyone need that this second string is completely useless? How many more completely winnable cup ties must we lose before the penny drops

FFS, rotate in a league game if you really need evidence of how below par our back up Players are. But for just one season as an experiment can we just try and win a trophy like we used to in the olden days.

Before I was 21 I had seen us win two UEFA cups and 3 FA cups. But in the last 34 years i have seen us win just two lousy league cups, and notjhing for 15 years

Didn't say Levy ordered Ange to make the changes. I just think at the beginning of the season, Levy would have told Ange that the priority was to get back into the CL places and the cups (especially the league cup) weren't as high a priority. Knowing this, Ange probably decided to give the reserve players a go.

Do you think he would have done this for a league game?

All 'm saying is that this team selection is all on Ange and he should wear it. Which he will.

I don't think Levy has any bearing on the matter at all except insofar as we haven't finished our business - yet again very late in the window.

So basically, whichever side lost would've pissed it away. Which seems less like pissing away to me and more just how competitions work.
If that's how you want to frame bombing out in the second round for yourself, then that's your prerogative. I'm not sure most would agree we're comparable to Fulham though.

I said the same. That chance he missed. It was half assed. Then the shot outside the box that went to mars. I mean when does he ever score those or even shoot from there ?? His a player who is disinterested and wants to leave 👋👋👋

Never fun to lose, but I’m not too bothered. A loss was coming, might as well take it in the league cup.
Bring on Burnley!
