What I don't understand is why Split have sold him or why he has agreed to be sold if he is staying there for another two years.
Why not just wait two years when surely they could get more money for him and he could make his choice then?
The demand for the kid's signature is huge from all accounts. Also you can't really turn down over 10 million quid for a 16 year old if you are a Croatian league team.

It's interesting that we were willing to take such a risk by signing him so early. Between now and 2025, all kinds of things could happen to him. Injury, lack of anticipated progress, etc. His talent must be extreme to have convinced us to sign him under those circumstances.

I think you probably could turn down that money, I'm pretty sure a major Croatian club like Hadjuk Split doesn't think we better sell him now in case he isn't very good at all in two years time.
Football clubs just don't think like that about young players, they look at the potential and believe it will pay off.
To be honest my point was as much about why he would make a decision now?

You can't sign a contract in Croatia for the duration over the age of 18. Once he's 18 he's a free agent and he can leave for free, so now is a good time to sell for Hajduk. And Vuskovic would help his club and get them some decent money for Croatian league.

A little over the top I’d assume as he makes him sound already perfect but an interesting thread non the less

Cheers, I guess that's the same here where players only sign a professional contract at 18 I think but that does make sense as it is even more important for a Croatia league club.

6'3" and 16 years old

geez he's gonna be a big boy when he grows up
This always happens with things related to football. Figures get misquoted.

Yes he’s 16.

No, he’s not 6’3”.

Why do we always get these things wrong?

He’s 6’4”.

I'm just happy to see us buying young, coveted players from all over the world again because we let the academy drift for far too long.
I get just as excited about getting these youngsters as I do first teamers.

Can't read the entire thread, but the initial tweet reads like something I would have put together in a Year 10 Media Studies lesson. The age is wrong and did they really have to bulk it out by saying a professional footballer was interested in football as a kid?

we took a risk on Sarr and Udogie, which may have given some confidence in this deal, which is fairly risky too.

im so happy to see this though, our u21’s are looking awesome atm too.

The more we bring in talented young players and ACTUALLY PLAY THEM - the likes of Udogie, etc. the more other talented young players will view Spurs as a good destination for them to further their careers.

Better a £12 million gamble now than wait until he's 18/19 and the usual suspects start sniffing round and he's north of £50 million if he develops as expected.

If we are to get the Gvardiols of this world, this'll be how we do it.

Of course there'll be whiffs but the hits will more than make it worthwhile IMO.

I Have no expectation we will ever win anything but in the past for me at least the best thing about supporting the club watching young players become world-class

For a club of our stature one rung down from the elite these are exactly the type of deals we should be targeting -back to the two tier recruitment approach that i've no doubts will serve us well in the short, medium and long term.
