There’ll be a big tug of war for him.
On the pre-contract tip I hope we are considering Herrera.
If not then we should wholeheartedly go for Frenkie De Jong, who will probably become significantly better than both. In fact I think he should be our main summer target, though we should look to...
He wasn’t happy in that position that be sure. It really depends on Southgate’s tactics - if we require a speedy centre back then I have suggested others. A three of Stones, Maguire and Gomez would be good now and moving forwards.
I guess Southgate has faith in him there? Otherwise I would only want Gomez or Lascelles in that covering centre back role, if we are going to continue with 3 centre backs - I did like the balance in defence. Proper left field but could Steve Cook do a job?
Is it too early for a 25-man squad prediction?
Goalkeepers: Pickford, Butland, McCarthy
Defenders: Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Walker, Maguire, Stones, Gomez, Shaw, Rose
Midfielders: Alli, Hughes, Maddison, Dier, Foden, Lingard, Cook
Forwards: Kane, Sterling, Gray, Sancho, Vardy, Wilson
Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen
Trippier Dembele Eriksen Rose
Moura Kane Alli
Subs: Vorm, Dier, Aurier, Davies, Winks, Lamela, Llorente
Might be an idea to start with Dier and have Dembele stabilise later but I’d like to see this.
Trippier Sanchez Vertonghen Rose
Eriksen Moura Alli
Subs: Vorm, Alderweireld, Walker-Peters, Davies, Dembele, N’Koudou, Llorente
I think we could even plump to having Llorente on instead of Sissoko.
I think we know which first team players NEED to come back from injury.
In terms of fringe youth players I would love to see Onomah, Walker-Peters, Carter-Vickers, Amos, Georgiou and Shashoua get some minutes and fill in when called upon. Obviously would like Edwards to have a crack at the whip...
All I can hope is that we find value and opportunity in January. Maybe a few players will get unsettled? It’s the next season syndrome again though. Our squad is strong, we have exciting youth coming through and we have a settled squad. Let me see the optimistic ratings...
