    You are correct, but the cut-off date is 1st of January this year for squad purposes, so he still qualifies for under-21.

    The only advantage of a midfielder, IIRC is they don't lose points for conceded goals. So yeah, defender would be better for Bale. If only Wolves' Jody Craddock were classed as a midfielder though, eh?
