  • Hi, Im heading to the sugarbowl on Jan 2nd in Nola. You got any recommendations of must-do's in New Orleans? I dont think I'd have time to head to baton rouge unfortuantely!

Though there are some pretty decent clubs in other parts of the city: Red Eye (852 South Peters Street) & Republic New Orleans (828 St Peters Street) tend to be more of a college crowd; Le Bon Temps Roule (4801 Magazine Street) plays nothing but live jazz, it's proper NOLA; Igor's Checkpoint Charlie (501 Esplanade Ave) is perfect if you want to stay up drinking till sunrise. Bizarrely it's a bar and a laundromat.

Non-drinking related I would recommend Cafe du Monde, their beignets are to die for, plus the French Market shop is open 24/7. You have to ride a street car through the Garden District, get a roast beef poboy from Parkway (538 Hagan St) and Napoleon House (500 Chartres Street) is a great little European style cafe (order the Pimms).

If you need somewhere really cheap to stay then I would recommend India House Hostel (http://www.indiahousehostel.com/). $17 a night per person and they even write the address of the place on your hand with a marker pen so if you get blind drunk you can just show your hand to the cab driver.

    Hope that helps.
