  • ....In 85 had my own small newspaper in East London...had a press pass for Spurs...covered Paul Millers testimonial v Rangers long time ago!
Les Murray is still doing well... went to Johnny Warrens funeral. I played against Dave Mitchell here in O35's before he went to coach Perth
Also I knew many press people like Les Murray and Mike Hil from SBS and loads, too many to mention who wrote for papers One (David Lewis from the SMH) ended up living in the flat under my folks house. There are many stories to tell from the 8 years did this. I certainly regret stopping as I was on the verge of really getting somewhere when I walked away...but that's another story.
My time was a little earlier than yours. I knew mostly coaches well, like Frank Arok and Eddie Thompson or Raul Blanco and Les Scheinflug. I knew some players too, like John Kosmina,Frank Farina, and David Mitchell who I was quite friendly with when he played for Millwall.
Tried to reply yesterday but apparently I wrote too much so I'll abbreviate it today.
In the 80s and 90s I was heavily involved with the old NSL. In my time I have been a radio reporter (esp 2WS and 2GB),a radio commentator ,a TV commentator (SBS) and even an administrator (asst mgr of NSL). I am happy to elaborate and it does sound more than it was but it did last for abiout 7-8 years in total.

Specspurs, you were in the middle of it! Know players in the NSL. Michael Cunico played for Northern Spirit and Marconi. Nick Carle with C Palace, played for Sydney Olympic. Aytec Genc commentates for SBS, played Sydney United.

Another I know from SBS is Kyle Patterson, now FFA. The old NSL clubs frozen out by A League but new club Western Sydney Wanderers seems to have really filled a gap attracting many supporters of Olympic, United and Marconi to a Western Sydney team. Are you involved in football in the uk? I'm a 600 gamer ....originally from London.
Just read your last message regarding scouting and recommending players from Oz.This made me wonder about whether you are involved in Oz Football,or Soccer as the Aussies call it. I am originally from Sydney and was heavily involved at one time.

Yes have been involved for 20 years at the Under 18 level with club and schoolboy/schoolgirl. Have coached in both the Catholic and Independent systems at the NSWCCC and NSWCIS level. I had the best independent school / U18 side in NSW this season just gone. What about you? Were you in the club pathway or schools?
