Yeah i think a few people are jumping the gun here !

There was a stat that Bale had never won a game in the premiership that he had appeared in.

He still hasn't won a game in the premiership that he has started, but at least he has won a game in the premiership now.

This record could have been put to bed a long time ago. There have been a few games where Bale was an unused sub in matches where we were winning comfortably.

In the end I guess it really doesn't mean anything, and I'd like to think he would have got a run-out even if we were losing, due to Harry understanding how good the boy could be for us.

No, it was every premiership game he'd played in. He'd never won a premiership game with us until today.

Now he has to get the starts one off his back, though that's less of an issue since he's still a kid and isn't first choice.

I'm sure he came on as a sub last season in a winnnng side. I thought it was about starts too.

Congrats Bale :clap::clap: Class player and a very sad stat that he has gotten out of the way.

I actually think its a shame that when he is finally part of a winning side in the prem people claim that was never the 'jinx' anyway. The supposed jinx was most definitely that he had never played in a game that spurs won - no question.

In general for a really young player to not have started in a game won is not unusual - normally they don't start many. Surprisingly Bale started 20 games over the last 2 seasons but only came on as a sub in 4 (according to soccernet.com). So the sub appearances don't contribute a great deal to the stat anyway.

Nope.

It is NOW about starts, but that is less of a hoodoo for me since he doesn't actually start many games.

It was all prem games. It's been discussed on here for a good year, how are people oblivious to it?

Maybe it's just the people who haven't devoted their entire lives to some dumb stat that are oblivious to it?

Also I hope people don't turn this into a 'never started' jinx now. He doesn't need it and it strikes me as moving the goal posts anyway.

If it wasn't for late equalisers at Fulham and Liverpool, it wouldn't have been an issue. During his start, he looked terrific but as time went on there was a small link, I think, to his form and ours. He wasn't very good at all last year.

It's so easy to ignore the fact he is 19. It doesn't help Bale that under 'Arry BAE has become a different player and has improved 10 fold and thoroughly deserves his place in the side therefore limiting Bale's time in the side. But can anyone give me an example of a 19 year old playing at FB in the EPL that hasn't made mistakes and been completely solid defensively? Clichy at Woolwich only became a first team regular at 21, is rated as one of the best LB's in the EPL but this season he has been playing poorly for them at the age of 24. Bale is raw defensively but other parts of his game are exceptional and in time he has potential to be a hell of a player. Hopefully patience from both parties ie the club and Bale is there and he becomes that 'top, top player' for us.

I agree, it's too much to expect a 19-yo without much experience and some terrible luck with injuries to be very good defensively, especially since he's naturally an attacking fullback. Luckily we have BAE so we don't have to drop Bale in the deep end and ruin his confidence. Some more cup games and sub appearances this season will be good for him.

It's been mentioned on here hundred of times, as well as in the media.

Bale hasn't been great since his injury, but then BAE wasn't exactly brilliant in his first few seasons (broken up by injury as well). Bale will get stronger and will get better. hopefully he can start putting the boot in like BAE a bit more though, because he's a bit of a fanny.

I don't see it as 100% coincidence that Bale has only just won a game though, he certainly was a factor in his own stat for me.

As I recall he was our best player in his first games - a shining light in an otherwise poor team (in much the same way as Lennon was during the start of last season. In a way I think his form has tended to be opposite to the teams - he well played games while the side looked poor (to connection IMO) and that is why this stat built up. He got injured before the side turned it around and when he came back the side was playing well so had had trouble getting a chance and when he did he let himself down and didn't get a chance to have a run of games in the PL.
