i used to question jj's ability in the past, but since he has played alongside palacios they seem to be forging a strong partnership.

i think i like most put too high an expectation of him, but looking at our side now we have creative outlets in modric, kranjcar & lennon i'm happy now for jj to just continue closing down the opposition with palacios while still making the late runs into the penalty box to chip in with the odd goal.. that's all i want from jj

Yes well done JJ. Nothing spectacular but offers the same if not more than Viera or Sissokho would have done. Hoping for some nice chemistry with Palacios and our central midfield 'problem' that we had is long gone. Props to the thudd too.

IMHO JJ is still our number 1 central midfield player and that includes Wilson.

Spot on

Wilson has more to improve on than JJ. His passing at times is truly shocking and his choice of fouls and tackles in crucial areas at certain times will cost us

Still think he's a cracking player and will get better, but JJ is still the more complete and rounded CM player

Regarding how well some of you think he's been in the last few games for us it still doesnt stop people down at the lane screaming out abuse at him or the other players i.e Cudicini etc with comments like "Jenas youre shit" & even worse comments that would ultimately get me an automatic ban from this website.

The thing with JJ is that he blows hot and cold and will probably have a shocker at bolton next saturday.

I like JJ but he never be in the same class as gerrard, lampard, scholes etc..... because he simply isn't good enough.

You can throw stats at me all day long about his passing ratio and all that other stuff but at the end of the day he isn't a top four team class midfielder where as wilson would fit into any any them with ease.

I would put fletcher behind Jenas in ability, and they are both very similar players, but Fletcher works in the Man utd set up, just like Jenas does in our set up, the Top 4 arn't always their because they have the best players, they our there because they have the best team. Until Jenas is nolonger needed within our team he stays.

Jenas may not be "top 4 quality" but he dosen't have to be, he is certainly top7 quality, and we are a top7 team...for the moment.

I hope the days of the "top 4" are over, and the days of a "Top 6" or "Top 7" begin.....but these are only dreams

We seem to keep talking about "top 4 quality" when talking about some of our players and I understand that to mean any of the top 4 teams would like to have that player/players in their team. I know 1 player can make a difference but 1 player alone can't get us into the top 4. Some will say Keane is a "top 4 player" well he was in a top 4 club and now he is back, does that mean he is not a top 4 player?

I say we stop picking out some players and look at the team. JJ may have not done much in some peoples eyes but what about the sitters Defoe, Crouch & Keane missed? What about the fact that Defoe is the most selfish player I've ever seen? but I still want them in my team. I use to look at the things JJ didn't do instead of seeing the things he does even though it seems like very little but at that time the little he did got us a goal and thats what its all about getting goals.

I'm not doing a u turn on JJ here I will still get frustrated with him because he will have his bad games when we know he can do better.

Just to put this "top 4 player" thing to bed, the way I see it Pool are in the top 4 but I would not want Babel, Arse are in the top 4 but I would not want Bendtner......... I guess we could pick a player from any of the top 4 teams that we think is not good enough for Spurs but we are not in the top 4

Its all about opinions and personal judgement (mine is we will finish in the top 4)

Ever since his return from injury he has looked class, he looks a different player tbh. I wanted him out to, but if he carries on like this then he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Jenas is one of those players who imo tend to develop later on in their careers - maybe he'll never be spectacular, but he fills an important role for us and we often look worse without him. He looked good alongside Palacios last season and I think more playing time will help their partnership. While I do like Hudd a lot, I don't think he should be getting ahead of JJ for now, except for against teams who won't be putting us under much pressure.

I don't believe Jenas is quite as inconsistent as people believe (at least no more so than most players), but I do wish he could play every game like it's against the scum.

Jenas is a Spice Boy. The only reason he is suddenly good is because he is busting a gut for the WC. He always could be this good. But he would rather be in the clubs than the gym.

I told everyone that the Spice Boys would be playing out of their skins this season. He has been out of the team before, so why wasn't he in the gym working other muscles back then?

The club and booze ban, coupled with the carrot of the World Cup is going to do wonders for us because we have so many party boys and so many fringe Internationals.

The shame is that they won't show this level of commitment for Spurs. Just ask Jol or Ramos or the dozen other managers over the past decade who get fired with so much ability in the squad.

I love how you give your opinion as fact. If their attitude was that bad why didn't they bring in some true professionals? Both managers you mentionned spent a lot of money, so why put up with these unprofessional players?

I was proven right beyond a shadow of a doubt that Spurs had a drinking/club culture.

I was also proven right that we would be top 5 (see my old sig which I put there even before pre season).

And now all of a sudden Defoe is banging them in, Lennon is called up for England, JJ is playing the best football of his career and even Hud etc looking better.

I said JJ, Defoe, Hud etc etc were all going to play better this season. And I said we would be top 5. So what part am I wrong about?

You think the JJ's etc decided to knuckle down? Or maybe, just maybe, they were FORCED to quit drinking/clubbing, and to further boost form, it coincided with the fringe England players wanting to play big time world cup Charlies.

Remember this little prediction: Once the WC is over, Spurs will go back to mid table unless Harry keeps on getting rid of the KPBs and replacing them with anti Spice Boys like Palacios. You gotta trust ole Gibbsy.

People have been patting JJ on the back for training hard while injured. I do the opposite. I question his integrity because why hasn't he been doing that all along? It is because of the world cup. And maybe even partially the likes of Palacios showing them what a dedicated player is all about.

Harry, so far, is handling the Spice Boys BEAUTIFULLY. Love it.

Oh and to answer your question, the fault IMO was us buying to many young players who were young, dumb and full of....to be of any true impact to Ramos or to back up Jol when he needed extra effort from them during the slump.

Thanks for the heads up gibbsy, the whole board was sat at their computers thinking that Jenas plays better with a hangover.

I have no idea where you were going with your post, but yes we have introduced and alcohol ban and our players have improved. Nice Observation.

It's elementary my dear Watson.

You can feign a "well duh" response, but the fact was the vast majority of posters on here thought that the drinking was fine and had no bearing on results.

It's hilarious how people think.

Not every player has to be a genius to be a great player imo. I think of all the stick a player like Darren Fletcher has gotten over the years. As a CM, he's not comparable on an individual basis to any of the 3 previously mentioned, but he remains one of the first names on the team sheet for United and has won cup after cup.

I think Fletcher is a cracking player, have done for about 3 years, but there seems to be a part of our support that only likes glamorous players who can fling the ball 40 yrds onto a 5p pence, then pop up and score 18 goals from midfield as well.. although in fairness fletcher isnt that far from that.. he must get around 10/12 goals a season?. but anyway.. great little player, I think JJ is better, he just doesnt do the sexy shit thats all

You are on drugs mate (10/12 goals a season) He has only scored 12 goals in 138 appearances for Man Utd!! Jenas has scored 21 in 119, and Carrick 9 in 96!!

Fletcher is a deep lying midfielder but he still manages to grab the odd goal, more than Palacios ever will.
