fifa stooge jack warner has spoken about the need for sin bins in footy to curb the diving and cheating problems we are having. it's a great idea but defintely would have to be decided by the ref and video evidence and not just the ref sending drogba off three times a match, sometimes he is actually fouled!

another great idea would perhaps be that the ref could offer players the choice once they have commited one niggly foul too many, of choosing between a yellow card or ten (or whatever) minutes in the sin bin

A sin bin is needed for any dives, and all those tackles that are definitely a yellow but can't really give a red for, like chopping someone down as they start a counter attack. No video, just referees/linesmans instinct.

It'd be interesting to see what would happen to goalkeepers under some circumstances if they brought that in. Can goalies in ice hockey get sent to the sin bin?

A penalty can be awarded against them, however it is served by another player.

Bloody silly idea.

If they are off for ten minutes is that ten minutes or ten minutes playing time or ten minutes on the referees watch and can the ref add on time if the player's team has been time wasting while he's been off.

What if Terry gets ten minutes and Drogba lays down for eight minutes does Terry come on two minutes later or must he stay off for eighteen minutes? Does anyone think this scenario couldn't happen?

Leave the game alone, stop meddling.

Too much messing around. Simple action would be to punish divers and cheaters after the game. I'm so fed up with watching replays over and over of a dodgy dive, enfuriating the viewer, yet nothing gets done about it. They tried to do it to Eduardo and for some reason it got thrown out. They need to clamp down on these things. Just because the ref didn't see it, doesn't mean to say the player cant be punished later on. If they start suspending players after studying video footage of an incident, we would see far less cheating and diving in the game.

I do actually find this mildly amusing. Did Jack Warner actually listen to the Sepp Blatter interview the other day, where he as good as said that his is not overly concerned about "simulation", it is dangerous tackles that he wants to outlaw!!

This just goes to show how out of touch FIFA really are, that they don't even talk to each other.

That is a quite brilliant point

the point is though, if van percy or fibreglass takes a dive against us, it is punished and benefits the team which is being fucked over.

a great deterrant and would pretty much cut diving out of the game

It won't work unless they stop the clock so worcestersauce is right.

would be a great idea, especially in regards to stamping out diving and abuse of the ref... providing they addressed the issue of time keeping... ofcourse the waste of time 4th official could just have a stop watch and time 10 minutes of where the ball is in play...

But that would cause no end of arguments about when the ball is in play or not, some out of play time, throw ins, corners and free kicks for example, is legitimate and should count in the time but if these are delayed at what point should the 4th official stop his watch? and if the ref talks to a player in the interim is that stoppage time or not? Rest assured as far as coaches are concerned that will depend on who's been binned their player or the opposition.
We have free kicks and penalties for transgression of the law and yellow & red cards for more serious offences not to mention fines and bans; how much more do we need?
