Struggling to score goals. Calamitous at the back. Had we not signed VDV I dread to think what could have happened.

Levy and Harry must take some blame here for not addressing the obvious in the summer.

Dawson - King - Woodgate - Defoe - Lennon - all injured for a significant part of the season .

Not many clubs could deal with the core of the first team being ripped out.

We should still be good enough to beat Clubs like Sunderland at home.

Agreed. If it were another club then all the talk would be about an 'injury crisis' ruining their season. Having said that, some players on the fringes who think they should be starting have shown they are not good enough.

Bentley, Palacios, Kranjcar, Keane. All have offered nothing when called upon. Our 'terrific squad' is an illusion as some of the fringe players are, frankly, a bit shit.

In fairness PT, King and Woodgate are almost garanteed to be out injured for large parts of the season. We all knew this in the summer and yet the only centre back we brought in was Gallas and he ain't looking that great at the moment.

But we know Ledley is unreliable and Woodgate is long term injured. So I dont think thats an excuse.

We also knew that we were over relying on Defoe in the summer.

We should have got a decent defender while we had the chance. Gallas has been blowing out of his arse this season.

Everybody in the world knew we needed a goalscorer.

Agreed, but the blow would massively lessened if Levy had got his cash out and signed a striker. Not even a 'world class' striker, just someone apart from Defoe who will finish out chances.

even with out King and Woodgate we still have Gallas, Kaboul, Bassong and Dawson. Over the last 2 seasons Kaboul and Bassong have shown they can be good players, but its just not working at the back at the moment.

Hope Dawson changes that soon...

Yes they could.

King and Woodgate were always going to miss games. Lennon has hardly missed games and Defoe wasnt even in good form for us.

We have had a tonne of games like this with King, Dawson, Defoe and Lennon playing. Theres something very wrong when a team containing internationals and apparent world class players like Modric, VDV and Bale cannot beat these teams. The rest of the side are not mugs either and didnt cost pennies.

I think our defence is getting a rather unfair hard time at the moment.

However, the strikeforce has some serious, serious question to answer.

I think VDV signed for us rather than Levy signed VDV if you know what I mean.

True and if it wasn't for him we would be nowhere, we have to find a forward from somewhere Crouch is useless at best and Keane is finished we need someone to support JD and Pav.

Im going to be controversial here but VDV actually has changed the whole dynamic of the team. We need to play 4-4-2 at home. If he wants to VDV then he drops modders and plays 2 up top.

Dont get me wrong, Levy has done a fantastic job. But the one criticism I have of him is that he doesnt always act decisively.

Everybody knows we were a couple of signings away in the summer. We signed Sandro, a 21 year old brazilian (great prospect,6m), old man Gallas (free) and last ditch VDV (8m).

That doesnt exactly inspire us for our 1st ever champs league campaign. Before the summer our top priority was a 1st choice striker and a 1st choice centre back. It still remains teh case, so surely we would have to say that Levy failed us?

What you say is true but it's irrelevant for mine. We dominated huge chunks of the game. Playing badly through missing players was not the reason we didn't win that game. The primary reason is that our strikers are nowhere near consistent enough and the defence plays well and then makes ridiculous errors out of the blue.

The striker issue is just huge at this point. Still, this far into the season our strikers combined have scored 2 between them. Even without the Defoe injury, we're still horribly short of talent and application, and often both, up front.
