6 points taken from 21. Edit 7 points taken from 24.

We have taken 6 points from a possible 21 against the teams who occupy the current bottom 6 places at the moment. For a team that has aspirations to finish in the top 4 again that is simply not good enough....:bang:

I don't know about the above 2 idiots but I think the opening post makes a good point.

Most points should come from the lower teams, they call it "routine wins" but apparently, that don't happen for spurs. Giant killing is just not enough and struggling to hold 4th proves that.

We have to be realistic about the likelihood of a top four finish and perhaps pin our hopes on a good outcome in Europe where we seem to shine and rise to the occasion.

I'm still optimistic because none of the top teams is infallible this season and anything can happen but we will certainly need some luck, especially with timely recovery from player injuries.

We just have to treat every game as a must win and we simply have not been doing that

Looking at our last 6 matches in which 5 out of the six were played away from home our record isn't as bad as alot of you are making it out to be:
Away Blackburn Barclays Premier League 0-1 Won
Home Bolton Barclays Premier League 2-1 Won
Away Sunderland Barclays Premier League 1-2 Won
Away AC Milan UEFA Champions League 0-1 Won
Away Blackpool Barclays Premier League 3-1 Lost
Away Wolves Barclays Premier League 3-3 Draw

Quite right...it stings more because we lost the 3 points with 2 mins to go.

What it does mean is that we cant afford any more slips from here on in. For instance the next 3 games needs to bring us 9 points, any less and we'll have to much to do.

West Ham and Stoke are at home, and Wigan (away) should suit us more as long as we dont do a Blackpool.

Big if I know, but there is no margin for error now in the next 3 games - we need 9 points and they're very get-able if we get our act together.

These so called routine wins we should be getting are against teams who are fighting to stay in this division and that's probably at least 7-8 teams they hardly going to roll over for us now are they. We're a scalp have been for years, we've gone from being a mid-table side to one that's scrapping for a place at the blunt end of the top, when did we earn the divine right to just turn up?

Given our recent fixtures and results the only one i've been frustrated with has been the Blackpool one, our away games at City, Liverpool and Chelsea are 6 pointers, personally i think they're all winnable TBH

This is the reality.

Its a cliché, but for the first time I think the reality is that there is simply not a team in the PL that is a walkover. Tightest league in years. The midtable and lower half sides are the strongest in years and the top teams are not as good as they once were.

So say it is a given that we will win such games is a nonsense. Yes, they are easier then playing the top teams, but they are not walsk in the park and if they are treated as such then losses come.

Would that be the same Man Utd that are top of the league?

One slip up is hardly the same as our near constant slip ups when it comes to bottom of the league teams this season.

You are right, Man Utd are top. But the point is still valid, Wolves are a tough team to beat at home, and they seem to be able to beat the top teams. Man Utd and Chelsea in recent weeks. This is no fluke. Yes, we should have one, but a point is really not the end of the world, and could prove to be a vital one come the end of the season.

I agree that this is just not a coincidence anymore....I really hate playing against the bottom teams, because I know we are going to give away points.....

But I don't know what we can do about it....

Some stats for you, and everyone else, as I know people love reading them

In games against the current bottom 6 up till 11.15am 07/03/11.

Arsenal have taken 25 from 30 points.
Chelsea have taken 15 from 21 points.
Man City have taken 26 from 30 points.
Man Utd have taken 23 from 30 points.
Tottenham have taken 6 from 21 points.

Look no further than the above stats to see why we are lying 5th as opposed to sitting very comfortably in a CL spot with a healthy points gap over the 5th place team.....

OK thats fine, so we win our game in hand over City, we are only 2 points behind.

We are level on points with Chelsea, they wn there game in hand, we are only 3points behind.

So by your stats, City and Chelseas are better against the smaller clubs, with the small points margin between the 3 teams in termsof placing in the league and the worse return for us against the smaller clubs, we are obviously better against the bigger teams. So bearing in mind we still have to play both of those teams, we should by rights beat them and finish above them

I like your logic but our game inj hand is against Arse at home, hardly a banker 3 pointer is it....

My point is Matty that had we taken at least 70% of the points against the bottom 6, like the other 4 named teams have managed, then we would today be sitting her debating whether we have the legs to go on and win the league NOT just scrape 4th.....
