He had a good half, not a good game. A Game consists of 90 minutes, Dempsey performed well for about 45.

I don't mind him, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. I'm sure by the end of the Liverpool game everyone will be asking for him to be sold again...
Agreed second half he was like the player we wanted to buy

I think Dempsey will turn into a good player for us. Never going to be VDV but he was signed as a useful squad player and I think that's what he will become.

Always feels good when you back a player when most insist he's shite...point being, he might of shown very little before today but he was never just shit full stop that so many insisted, and probably from people who never even watched him much when at Fulham.

Hopefully he can really kick on now.

A good second half. Performance was secondary today though in my eyes, the main thing today was it's the first time he actually looked like he wanted to play. For the first time he put some effort in, made himself available for the ball and eventually in that second half got his rewards for doing all the right things with some good moments of play.

More of this please.

I totally agree. I hate the way players get treated on here, on other Spurs forums and at the ground. Either you should be world class or you're a pile of shit. Granted I was the first to raise concerns about Dempsey and Sig, and thought as much when everyone was saying we would be better off without VDV as, particularly Sig, could play the new formation better.

When both showed very little in the first few games, rather than wishing they'd fall under a bus I just felt we'd be better of trying Defoe and Ade but they should be given time before people pipped up with 'I told you so'. Defoe falls under the same bracket because people prefer to love to hate him, rather than accepting him for what he is.

I don't think we're going overboard with Dempsey either as I expect he wont hit the ground running like many would (and myself included) hope, but it was an encouraging sign and if we can get as many players playing well, then that is a good headache for AVB and shows we're in a better position.

The team almost picks itself for Liverpool, with Hudd/Dembele and Sandro/Livermore the only choices. I expect us to be unchanged though.

Worked hard and earnt the space that enabled him to be so effective in the second half. First half they were tight to him but he showed neat touches to lay it off or keep the ball. Once they realised they couldn't shut him out, they backed off a bit. good performance but...wham were a bit shit in midfield today. Next week will be a real test.

He was up against a pile of shite, so let's see if this continues on Wednesday before we start to get too forgiving over his piss poor performances so far

Wednesday? What, against another pile of shite?

He was great today. He knows he is struggling this is an honest guy. No way is he a bad signing yet.

I really like him and that ball to Bale today was breathtaking. Ginolaesque.

He isn't Mr Vaart but he will be a useful player for us.

Glad he finally had a game he can be proud of today

Much, much better today. You could see his confidence growing all match.

Still don't think the role we are playing him in suits his skillset. Him receiving the ball back to goal and having to use cute touches to make space and lay it off or turn is not what he is good at, it was something that Rafa excelled at, so maybe the rest of the team are playing by memory. He just doesn't have the sublime control to do it though.

At Fulham, he shone and scored for fun when someone' else was receiving the ball and finding his runs into the box. Funnily enough if he had stayed at Fulham I think he could have been Berba's new Keane. They would have fit together superbly.

Good game from him to day, had a foot involved in 2 of the Spurs goals (that disguised lobbed pass to Bale was class) so let's hope he'll build on this game.

His best performance for us today. Late in the game he was coming deep to collect the ball. He wanted to be part of the play and his confidence was high. He put a lovely ball to Bale for the goal and set up Lennon well for the third. It may have taken time for him to settle in to a bigger club and greater expectations. He may just show some fans that is not always wise to write someone off so prematurely.

Also it was the first time we scored in the first half at home this season. It gave us the lead, took the pressure off and gave us greater time on the ball. Clint definitely benefited from it as all of our players did.

Its just a shame I had to punch him in the eye to remind him how good he is.

LOL it all makes sense now.

I have been very critical of him since his first game for us. Partly through no fault of his own in that I was disappointed we missed out on Moutinho and got him. It seemed a desperate last minute signing but I thought if he could show the form he did at Fulham he could be very useful. Instead he seemed completely unable to show any composure or control and really stunted any advances from the team.

Today though he looked very capable of filling the VDV role for us. He played some very clever though balls which is what we have been needing for nearly a year as we cannot always rely on wing play, we also need to pose a threat through the middle. I just want him to bang in more goals, hopefully at least 10 by the end of the season.

It's why he and Ade need to be given time to form a partership - Ade would be perfect foil for him.
