Defoe was terrible, doesn't work hard enough closing down and his movement and hold up play when we had possession was atrocious. Suarez showed what a lone striker can do despite their size...
Maybe, but he's a ****.

Suarez showed what a small striker can do, when his side is not under pressure and he is given time on the ball. Also, I don't think he looked that great tbh.

He works his balls off and is a constant thorn. Defoe doesn't and isn't.

We had 35% of possession at home? is that stat accurate? if so its pretty embarrassing but a win is a win and a win was vital tonight, hopefully we will build confidence from this and begin to grow as a team

I miss the football we played the last few seasons but I suppose without a Modric or a VdV our ability to play the beautiful game is lessened

Still, a win over Liverpool is a big result regardless of the performance

I'm not arguing that he works harder than Defoe, I have been very vocal pointing out that Defoe has been detrimental to our style of play this season, but Suarez just isn't as good as people make out.

Yes. Completed 240/307 passes (78%). Liverpool completed 469/556 passes (84%). We had 51% of the territory.

We completed 43/71 passes in the final third. Liverpool managed 122/179.

These stats are from Opta.

As much as Modric and VDV are greatly missed, what we are also missing is an out ball in games like this.

We obviously miss Modric's ball retention but with a striker capable of holding the ball up it wouldn't be anywhere near as apparent as Dembele is capable of using possession and keeping us ticking over in there.

Lloris - 6 - Nearly cost us a goal, aside from that was good.
Walker - 8 - Much, much better.
Dawson - 6 - Sloppy, did a decent job on Suarez for the most part.
Gallas - 6 - I cringe when the ball goes near him. Did make a very good last ditch tackle though.
Vertonghen - 7 - Good. Won every tackle (iirc)
Sandro - 6 - Wasn't bad but nowhere near his usual imperious self.
Dembele - 7 - Majestic at times.
Bale - 8 - Would have been higher if not for him hiding the entire second half.
Dempsey - 5 - Couple of good touches and play, pretty non-existent though. Did 'win' the free kick for the goal though.
Lennon - 7 - Scored. About it. Worked hard defensively.
Defoe - 3 - Pathetic effort.

Not according to the BBC, they have it as 48% - 52%

Quality for 20 minutes, very average for 70. Having someone in midfield who constantly wants the ball is key. I think having Parker in there to drive from midfield when we are up against it will be a big plus. Dembele is great when we are playing well, but goes hiding when we are under pressure.

Lloris - 6. A Few dodgy moments, and a few good moments. Definite No.1 for me
Walker - 7. Slowly growing in confidence. Lack of concentration and positioning at times is still a worry.
Gallas - 6. Shaky at times and solid at others. Still takes far too long to distribut forward and constantly looks to slow things down
Dawson - 7. Thought he was great first half. Kept the tempo up by giving it short and early into midfield
Vertonghen - 6. Not really involved and was poor in possesion in the second half, The hoofed diagonal to Lennon and Defoe is never on!
Sandro - 7. did his usual mopping up. Still needs to want the ball more.
Dembele - 7. Excellent early, but anonymous in the socnd half. He needs to be the one drive us and take control
Lennon - 7. Showed good work ethic as always, not in the game much as an atackign threat
Bale - 8. Unplayable early on and won us the game. MOM
Defoe -6. The type of game where he is rendered completly useless.

Once again quick ball movement and tempo makes us look brilliant. We have the players in the final third to finish, they just need the ball earlier. The second half showed why we miss someone like Parker who will drive the team forward, keep the passing short and simple, and just beat teams into submission. Having a Midfield 3 of Parker, Dembele and Sandro would IMO stop the second half pressure we seem to always put ourselves in.

Bu alas with that we sit 5th, 3 points of 3rd and have done so without the spine of our team. Sure there is a lot of work still to be done, but we have at least given ourselves a chance. Not bad I say!

What shaky moments did you see Lloris have? The only one I saw was when he charged out to get the ball and Walker knocked it to the side where Henderson showed his class by missing by a Country mile. I don't even think that counts as shaky as he would have won the ball if Walker hadn't taken a touch.

I think we owe a lot to Ledley King as Suarez must still think hes stuck in Ledleys pocket after his previous trips to the lane.

I don't think he should have committed himself as much as he did. He saw Walker was there, and always likely to win the ball with his pace. It looked like he just decided to come out and then that was that.
