At this moment in time he isn't good enough for our first team, but he is definitely a premier league player. He may have wanted more first team football due to the world cup and he will get that at Cardiff. If he developes into a top player within the next two seasons, then we can buy him back at the same price.

Everyone's a winner!

Is that in the deal? if not then if he develops we would have to spend a lot more to bring him back

Makes no sense this. We nearly got 10 million for an old slow Daws and now we sell the guy that was going to be the future for 9 million...? Buy back clause? Cronic injury? IQ under 80?

We could learn a thing or three from Cardiff.. Want a player then Boom he's signed. Why does any deal we attempt take an eternity?
Comes to something when a newly promoted side show us how to do it.

For all we know those negotiations could have been going on for weeks. Just they don't have a media team who blab about it every 5 mins (Valencia) or a newspaper devoted to unsettling wanted players.

We managed to sign Modric, Berba and Sandro without fuss

This absolutely sucks, never since King have I seen such a quality player come through the ranks.

I am not a believer in Carroll, Holtby, Livermore blah blah blah, I'm a slightly cynical Spurs fan who honestly thought Caulker was going to be the bedrock of our team for the forseeable future.

How can we say yes to 9m when we have said no for the 85m for Bale (not that it matters as he's gone too)

Huzzah 100m to spend but no-one wants to come to a club with Europa league football and no wonder-player to give us hope.

Please prove me wrong in some form but this is the least I've looked forward to a footballing season since I got my ticket +20yrs ago

Are you having a laugh???

There must be something in the pipeline, they wouldn't get rid of a good back up defender without a plan... May be a defender coming in as part of the Bale deal or it may be that chiriches chappy. I cannot understand why we did not just loan him out for a year out if he wanted match minutes, then we could have brought him back if we get an injury crisis.

Surprised like everybody else at Caulker going, but do you not think it instructive that he went to Cardiff - if he was that good would now have gone to a better team ?
Without wanting to sound wise after the event I thought he was shaky the last few times I saw him, maybe he has reached his potential.

As long as he's replaced with someone better I'm not to fussed. If we're only having 4 CB's in the squad then we can't carry any passengers. Each of them should be good enough to have a sustained run in the team without there being a noticeable drop in quality.

Sure, it's always nice to have a player who's been brought through the academy, with the hope that he'll become the next King, but the powers that be obviously don't see that happening.

Strange one! I quite liked Caulker thought he was pretty decent at Swansea & had good first half of season for us. His form did tale off after Christmas but he is still young and learning the game & was only his 2nd season in premiership. Now we only have four centre half & one has a pretty doddgy knee! So not sure how many games he will play

would sell Dawson about Caulker...only trouble is I bet no one wanted him but they were queuing up for Caulker so Cardiff moved quickly

Bit worried about the 1st few games now, only Daws is available at centre back, or with a last min buy with no game time together, no Bale and a few new signings that was promised Bale was staying. Happy days.

Why do we start the season in disarray every year?

Don't mind this. 8 m is a good bit of money for an average player.he was never going to take us to that next level, now all we need to do is sell Dawson and get two quality cbs

Dunno about this. Kaboul at the same age was much more of a liability, although admittedly you could see he had more of the raw materials to be potentially a very good player. I think with more games he will learn more, particularly his positioning and when to close down his man.

I think there was enough there to work with over the next year or two though, and these claims that AVB is someone who would be the ideal manager for youth development etc seem to look less and less accurate though.
