There is loads of time left to do something with other targets our window has still been very good compared to Pool and Arsenal and nothing ever goes perfectly.

All comments about the transfer window need to be held off until Sept 3rd. The club must be as aware as anyone that Bale has to be replaced, which means two top quality attackers. Lamela is one, there has to be a second. The possibility of Willian only happened within the last couple of weeks, there must be other plans.

Very unlikely to happen but I would be made up for us to seal Lamela over the weekend and possibly Chiriches soon after. That would be huge and would mean that even in a scenario where we didn't get any other targets I'd say we'd be in decent shape.

I cannot wait to face Chelsea on the Pitch. Put out a midfield of Capoue, Sandro, Dembele, and Paulinho for the sake of punishing them.

Leave. No. Stone. Unturned. In the wise words of Walter White, "I suggest you tread lightly."

Absolutely agree. The waves of optimism combined lack of ambition is a real testament to the state of the nation.

Everyone wants and expects something for nothing..

Fergie didn't say "Right, we won the league again, no need to sign anyone" He constantly strived for better.

You can't rest on your laurels if you want to succeed.

In the same vein, in our boat if you want to succeed you can't keep risking losing your best and hoping the newcomers will come cheap and blossom.

Has anyone actually made a list of potential players that are goo enough, affordable and willing to sign instead of Willian?

Cos I am struggling to name one.

I get what you're saying but we didn't/haven't rested on our laurels. I mean we broke our own transfer record twice this summer and were all set to do it for Willian but a bigger team than us (cause you cannot deny Chelsea are a bigger team than us) have come in at the last minute before we were able to tie everything up.

We're not the biggest team int he world so that's something we have to live with.

As for selling our best player, we can try our best to keep our best players and we have kept bale for this long but if anyone takes a second to think about it, we're talking about a WORLD RECORD FEE. This is the definition of crazy money we're talking about. It's very very VERY hard to turn down from one of the biggest clubs in the world. As a footballer of course Bale would wanna go there and for that amount of money of course we'd be prepared to sell him. All we can do is make sure we don't get screwed which is why we're trying to make sure the money is up front or at least on our terms and attempting to sweeten the deal with players though it's hard to make people switch jobs and take a pay cut.

End of the day, we have tried to get a great player in Willian and just not been able to do it cause a bigger team has come in. We have tried to keep Bale but faced a world record bid. We've still improved with our four summer signings and are pushing for more like Lamela so I am a very happy Spurs fan right now.

Sorry - just to add to my post, honestly a bit of perspective is needed. Rewind a week and we are where we were. Optimisitic and impressed as hell at our business. A lot has happened in the last week with a player absolutely nobody thought we were signing until a few days ago. Don't let that instantly obliterate everything that has come before.

It's disappointing in the right here and now but ultimately it hasn't changed a thing from a week ago and nobody was lining up to lob themselves off the nearest bridge before that.

Exactly, nothing has changed - so why the depression? It's ridiculous to be honest.

I'd be far from devastated if signed Damiao.

My hunch is AVBs plan is to build a more versatile squad, where no player is frozen out - then a couple of youngster for experience and depth.

One of Soldado or Damiao would be frozen out bar injury, as both only play no.9.

Suspect if we can it will be someone like Lamela or Morata occupying the Soldado understudy slot - whilst getting minutes in other positions.

I just don't think it's a smart use of our resources to have a £20m / £100k a week player wasting on the bench bar injury or suspension.

Quite right, we should fill our bench up with Sub Average player, that cost us nothing up front, and only want 10k per week.

That's the depth and strength we need to make top 3 and win trophies!

To be honest, I can't see someone sitting on the bench for any length of time as we are in so many competitions. Everyone would get a game and two number 9's are what we need incase there is an injury to Soldado, and we know how Spurs like to get injured at crucial times.

Glad I was on the golf course today, a chance to get away for endlessly checking itk. Now I am trying to take an overview. Willian would have been great but was not a target at the beginning of this window since he was seemingly out of reach. That means it is just a case of back to the list which clearly we have been working through. Maureen might have his plan B and plan C but from what we have seen this window clearly AVB has lists of players from everywhere in plans from a-z. But I still think we should not sell Bale until we have all the key players we want

Some of the posts in this thread today have been absolute rubbish. Thought I was on RAWK going through 71 pages in here. We laughed at Liverpool the other day after we gazumped them it seemed and now we are all throwing our toys out the pram now that we've been gazumed ourselves! If Willian doesn't join us then so be it, I trust we have other alternatives and Franco will get us another target and who knows, may be better than Willian?. Lets move on - COYS
