here's a full match vid of his involvement against our pals Dinamo Tbilisi, shows some defending, though he also gets into the Tbilisi box for goal attempts in open play three times in the last 10 mins haha

“@Emishor: Chiriches agent Ioan Becali 2 MONTHS AGO: "Mourinho told me: if Chiriches would have been 2 inches higher, I would have taken him to Real"”

There has been speculation from the start that Chiriches would go to Chelsea. They need a centre back and all of the Romanian media talk about how close Mourinho is to their owners. It wasn't for dramatic effect - there is just genuinely a chance it might happen for me
WTF does this say about Mourinho that he feels 6ft is too small for a CB:rolleyes:

If we get this guy is he going to be first choice?

AVB rotates his CBs frequently. I could see a situation where similar to last year where it became Verts/Dawson and Caulker/Gallas that we almost have pairings of Verts/Dawson and Kaboul/Chiriches. Obviously Verts/Kaboul will probably play some together, but I think that's probably the combination of skillsets AVB is looking for. Verts and Chiriches together would probably be incredibly entertaining but also probably incredibly scary with their propensity to get into the attack.

It sounds like a lot of money for a position that I think we are well covered in. Verts and Kabila for me as first choice

I wonder about Kaboul though, persistent tales of his injury being serious really worry me.

We're not that well covered. A week before the season and we were in crisis. Can't be having that during the season. Chiriches is vital.

Hope we pull this one off. Kaboul, Verts, Chiriches & Dawson is stronger than Gallas, Caulker, Verts & Dawson without doubt.

Exactly. Dawson, Vertonghen and Kaboul were all out at the time iirc, leaving gaping holes in our defense. Also, Chiriches is ace.

teams should have 4 centre backs. Especially if one of those is coming back from a big injury and we're looking at 4 competitions this season.

Just a few weeks ago Spurs lined up with Fryers and Livermore in centre defence. There is plenty of room for rotation.

Well covered?

We're about as well covered as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was by Take That.

We have three central defenders. Would be crazy to try to go through an entire season with so few.

So it's like for like with Caulker. Can this dude also play right back?

Other than the obvious fact that Chiriches is a centre back, it's not a like for like swap from what I've seen and read about him. Almost certain that Chiriches isn't anything like as good as Caulker in the air. But equally almost certain that he's far more mobile, has far better positioning and reading of the game, and is far more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Caulker.

Yes so he's basically better than caulker at everything besides winning the odd header. I'm sure his postional awareness will help him win just as many headers.
