No behaviour will change how good Bale was last year and what he will continue to be with Madrid, however, there is a right way and a wrong way to conduct yourself, I'm probably a little naive in thinking we deserved a bit better.

We'll end up getting a lot of money for him and as long as we reinvest it wisely I have no issue with him being sold. There is still a nagging couple of feelings in the back of my mind though; Firstly that we have become a stepping stone (Carrick, Berba, Modric and now Bale) and that a footballer will always get there own way regardless of contracts and a club's wishes.

All the best Gareth.

I think it shows up Bale's temperament/character a bit. Whether we like them or not, Suarez and Rooney have shown some balls, turned up and fronted things out. Bale in comparison has run away and hid.

So press conference over and nobody asked about Lamela? FFS.
They asked about Lamela, Ericcson and Chichester , (bastard auto spelling)

AVB said we wre still looking to strengthen and expect payers to come in (more or less)

But United were never selling to a rival in a million years - a Real Madrid or Barcelona completely changes the landscape of potential transfers and once they come knocking with all the glitz and razzmatazz behind them, not to mention to lure of absolute fortunes then no player is turning them down.

Im not syaign they would, but I dont think Rooney would have acted like Bale, I dont like Rooney, I think hes a fantasic footballer but he has respect for the club he plays for, thats the difference.

When asked about Lamela at the Spurs press conference, AVB said that there will be "further news in the next few days". He also said that they were looking to strengthen in various positions, which means there could be more signings on the radar.

Looks like its going down do D day,

AVB was unhappy that Hodgson didn't call him first before calling up Townsend.

Bale didn't turn up to training because he wasn't man enough to face his employers and fellow team-mates. It's a little bit pathetic. If you can't deal amicably with the personnel at Spurs, good luck at Real Madrid mate.

Sounds like Bale deal is imminent, first time AVB hasn't been in denial. Sounds like he's also burnt his bridges with AVB (Bale that is). He's ended his amazing time at Spurs on a really sour note. I've said all last season he had changed as a person (heard from a source not my onion) yet people still wanted to be in denial and believe he was that 'quiet, mummy's boy'.

Have always used my mate's account of Bale (in his early Spurs days) in a Cardiff nightclub as a reference point for the 'wholesome image' not being necessarily accurate. Gutted to lose him as a player definitely seems that the advisors around him have managed to turn him into a cash cow and a bit of a big time charlie

I don't think its sour grapes, Look at Lamela - he's still training with Roma even though a move is imminent.
There's ways and means of doing things, Gareth has come across like a right ****

It sounds silly but you're right (in regards to the ear's being pinned back being the start of his 'transformation')... He has started to believe his own hype, would a lot of us do the same in his situation though? Most probably.

I just can't understand the people who think he is still going to be the same 17 year old shy, awkward looking kid who arrived with us. He clearly has an arrogance about him nowadays. You can see that from his on the field antics and how he now conducts himself off the pitch (fashion wise etc)

Don't get me wrong it was that arrogance that won us many points last season, so there's a flip side to every story.

All in all, it's a case of :

Thanks for the memories Gareth but you've badly tarnished your reputation with a club you will have spent half your career with upon retirement. Silly, silly boy. Good luck succeeding with all the eyes in the footballing world watching your every move.

Agree with you. Yes he's become more arrogant but without developing that arrogance/confidence, he wouldn't have kept banging in those goals last year.

It's a shame it's gone a little sour at the end of the window, as now some will hate him for this. It's a tough one, I think Ill try and remember him as a great player and he's brought us in a wedge of cash and let us strengthen our squad. Cheers GB.

Now, COYS for the weekend :)

Fuck me, anyone would think we've been shafted in this deal!

*cough* world record fee *cough*

Do you not get the fact that some fans just want some respect to be shown to the club and therefore them, the club that has made him? It's not about it being a good deal for us or not or getting the money we want..It's a disappointment that we are now so far removed from these players that we cherish and that to them the club means fuck all. What is even worse is thatt I've listened for 2 years to people saying 'he's not like that', well he is and he's left on bad terms in a petulant manner.. showing that blatantly he doesnt care about his teammates, the manager, the fans who have supported him etc

It was fairly clear that Gareth Bale was on the way out, but after he flew back from Spain this week, people began to question if the deal was actually on.
Now that it has all been confirmed by AVB, and the deal is in the very late stages and close to being completed, what do you lot think about that as Spurs fans (or even neutrals/fans of rival teams)?
Let us know @mirrorfootball - will you miss him, or do you think your squad this year is stronger than last year because of all the additions?

It's either squeeze an extra few million out of the super clubs and hate the player leaving, or sell quick and love the player leaving.

I would rather see the big picture and take off my spurs tinted specs.

This probably isn't the time, but who of you have never thrown a strop when you thought you were being treated shabbily? Especially when all the people you love and trust for advice are telling you that's exactly what has happened. Later, when it's all died down, you might get a bit of perspective and start to see there are several sides to the argument, but at the time you only see it from your own side. It happens to me several times a day!!

Now if it's your dream that's at stake, your future being argued over you might be inclined to be partial and one-sided in your outlook.

But fair enough, people are pissed off (though not sure why now, as we've known his feelings on the situation the whole summer just about!), and there's nothing wrong with being pissed off, but just try and keep a bit of dignity, don't start re-writing the lads entire character. He was a good lad before, and he's a good lad now.

I didn't begrudge Bale the move but now he has acted on this way, I feel he has burnt his bridges with us and will not be welcome back when we turn into the new football superpower in about two years. Shame really.

Meh, don't care about Bale anymore, but I do hope Ronnie blanks him when he first meets the team, that would be quite funny :)

couple of 'big brother' style hidden cameras around the RM facilities as we watch CR make Bale's life a misery would be the best entertainment this year...
